A series of five seminars, beginning on 22 March, has been jointly organised by Corfu & Rhodes in conjunction with the Greek Tourism Office, EOT. The aim is to promote tourism to the islands. Amongst those invited are TUI (Thomson), Alltours & Thomas Cook.

Just as I was wondering where the seminars would be held , I found and read an article about one of them , Tuesday 24th of March in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. A Greek night aboard the "Serenity", for travelagents to inform them about de Greek islands of Corfu and Rhodos. :
"Travel Unie International Nederland N.V.

Hi Petra, the seminars are all on board boats on the Rhine (Main) and the Danube.

Hopefully one of the seminars will include how to ensure all work is finished in time for the first visitors to the area. If not there could be a lot of holiday photos which include long black pipes and a lot of rental cars being returned with under body damage.

Apologies, I hadn't realised my post could be looked upon as encouragement, unless of course it does encourage the powers that be to make sure all the local works are finished in time for the start of the season.
'Helping to promote Roda, the place we love.' this we have been doing since 2001 - offering an unbiased/truthful view of Roda. We receive many emails each month asking about Roda and all are answered honestly, but look around the area at the moment.
It doesn't matter how many good reviews Roda is given... people tend not to remember those.... it is always the bad ones that people remember or in this case people's impressions if they arrive to find black pipes lay around all over the place or when returning a hire car get charged for underbody damage due to all the road works.
I have always tried to offer unbiased views of Roda because I do love the place.. warts an' all. Currently it is looking as though this work is not going to be finished in time which sadly will not help any of the towns affected, hence my comment.... maybe, just maybe it will encourage the powers that be to ensure it is finished.
As for happy pills... thanks pete but never needed them.... living in Roda keeps me happy.

Maybe someone could ask the tour companies why when people try to book a holiday in Roda they are told all hotels are full.
My sister in law tried to book two weeks holiday for June this year and her travel agent told her there was no available space. She has since booked on line with an independant through this web site.

You are right, accommodation in Roda is far from full except perhaps for the peak season in July/August and even then there is lots available. Clearly, the travel companies need challenging over this and this is as much for the holidaymakers to do as the accommodation owners themselves. Do not think that you are only one voice - challenge them and demand further confirmation. Somebody once said that 'anyone who thinks they are too small to make a difference has never been to bed with a mosquito!' I wrote to ABTA two days ago and I will let you know how they decide to avoid the issue!

Hopefully one of the seminars will include how to ensure all work is finished in time for the first visitors to the area. If not there could be a lot of holiday photos which include long black pipes and a lot of rental cars being returned with under body damage. Dear Mac, Oh dear, it’s happened again, no sooner does your posting about the new pipe-laying schedule for the village sanitation improvements, and your expectation of horrendous delays taking it into the start of the season, appear on the forum (cheerfully negative as usual) than the b*****s actually start the job, and AHEAD of time – outrageous EH! I tell you, pal, you’ve either got enormous influence or you’re a bit out of touch, yet again! The work, for the record, is now already past my restaurant, to be completed within three days, with tarmac going down within the next three weeks and completion of this year’s programme for the whole village very shortly after. Whilst admittedly not having a business in the village yourself, if you had taken the trouble to ask any one of us who has, or communicated with the mayor, as we do as a matter of course, then your fears would have been allayed. All these negative waves, my friend, do the village, not to mention your personal standing, no good at all:- “The moving finger writes, and, having writ, moves straight into another pile of it” (with apologies to Mr Khayyam for the paraphrasing). The fact that you ‘worry’ so much about Roda does indeed gladden my heart, but accuracy is the essence of prophecy and I’m sure you don’t commit the same basic errors on your own website. Perhaps not ‘jumping the gun’ quite so much and appreciating things with a more leisurely decorum might make you feel so much better about those things. As one of our greatest thinkers once said, a guy called Socrates, as it happens, “All I know for certain is that I don’t know everything” – certainly worth remembering, isn’t it? Kind Regards – Des Nouvel.

Thanks for the kind regards Des I always thought that forums are supposed to be a place of discussion - good or bad. Strangely enough I actually discussed this matter with people who have businesses in Roda prior to my original post.

I am sorry, but I know for certain that Mac is not the only person in Roda, or indeed Acharavi, concerned about the pipe laying being completed on time in the area. Yes they may have a schedule, yes they may have started early, but it doesn't take many wet days (of which you know we have many at this time of year) to make things very behind that schedule, and no matter how much communication you may have with the mayor it will not change that im afraid!
The concerns that Mac stated are very real, IF the work is not completed then many first time visitors to the area will get a very negative first impression of the area. Will these people return? I very much doubt it, and it only takes a few negative comments about the area on one of the more popular holiday review websites to undo all the good work that sites such as this, Mac's and many others do for Corfu and its resorts.
There is an awful lot of work left to do, and the holiday season is now only at most, 8 weeks away, we can but hope it gets finished, but there are certainly no guarantees.
I totally expect to be shot down in flames for stating my opinions here too, but so be it, I have broad shoulders, I just think that websites such as this one, need to show both sides of a story, and remove the rose tinted spectacles occasionally.
Sorry, rant over!
Dean

Although I do not live in Roda, I am a regular visitor. As in all walks of life, there are the pessimists, the optimists and the realist.
Being a pessimist, worrying about what might be, won't change what will be, get more hope! The optimist will bring positive view points regardless of outcome (that's me, by the way) and the realists in this debate, (Julie, Steve et al) brings practical INFORMED information and balance.
Constant negative comments will not help Roda (strongly starting to believe that some people may have hidden agenda's for all this negative input). However, I do agree that people should be told (which they have) that work is being undertaken in Roda to IMPROVE the facilities for visitors, scheduled to be completed prior to session starting.
However, the impact Roda makes on people, is not the facilities, not the beach or the ouzo, its the sense of belonging..... the people! Before anyone says anything, I have been to other places in Corfu and other Greek Islands. Roda has something special!
I have no agenda in saying this, if you are a visitor to this site and you are reading this, please do not be put off picking Roda for your holiday by the work that is being undertaken to benefit largely us the visitors, sometimes it is messy when getting work done, but how else are they to improve, at some point it has to be done! No one can say for 100% sure that the work will be completed on time, but you can be sure they will almost kill themselves to ensure that it is.
