No need to tip-toe across to the harbour this year, we've got Armco to protect us. It looks as though lighting may be installed also and don't worry about the boards, they've now been replaced with something a bit wider. One of the aims was to create a better flow of seawater and make the harbour deeper and, on the day these photos were taken, you would have to say it's working.

that looks very good, hope it doesn't wash the beach away as many years ago the beach was very narrow with hardly any beach at all outside the THE KIND HEARTED PLACE, they then put in 3 groynes which made the beach a lot bigger but silted the harbour up and the boats were unable to pull in. Then 2 groynes were dismantled and holes made in the one left by the harbour bar which did not solve the problem on the harbour siltng up and the problem with the seaweed. I hope this will save andreas having to clear the beach of seaweed as it should flow through now!!!

Hi Marg - the weather every year is different and we can't be sure how much the beach has been affected by man or the elements. There is no doubt that things have changed a little, with sand piled up at the western end of the beach, a larger sandbank to the east of the harbour and other stretches along towards Acharavi. The council come along every year to give Andreas a hand, and many lorry-loads have been carted off - some of which is destined for my garden! As you may realise, the temperatures have been unseasonally high in May, and there have been less maistros crashing in from the north-west. This in itself has had an effect on the delicate balance of currents and sands - how it will all turn out is anyone's guess.

I remember walking over the stones one year, was a bit precarious, looks a lot safer now, that's the problem with living by the sea, where I live we had the same problem, but due to a regeneration of the village we had a load of sand shipped in, looks nice but in years to come who knows, you can't stop the forces of nature.
