The last few days have seen the exchange rate between the GB pound & the euro rally a little, but is it a trend or a blip? Now I don't know enough about the complexities of international currency rates to have my own opinion, but I have read that the strength of the euro cannot be sustained indefinitely and, sooner or later, its position will change.
Yesterday someone told me it has been reported that, within six months, the exchange rate will return to what it was some two years ago. Whether that will happen, what might cause it to happen and what difference it will make, are all matters of conjecture but, if it does, then British holidaymakers will get more for their money this summer.
The rate at this moment is 1.145 GBP to 1 euro.

Hi davvo - I don't know what will happen to the euro on a day-to-day basis and clearly the GB pound is weakening against the euro at the moment. The prediction is that the euro will devalue and that will not be a gradual process - if, and when, it does happen, you should see an improvement overnight if, that is, the GB pound can keep its head above water until then.

Great to see you back on the forum Bob. When will you be coming out to Roda next, to spend your money in exchange for those genuine smiles? I have to agree that holidaying in the UK is not cheap, even days out from home turn out to be more expensive than planned. My dad was telling me that he was in Hastings at the weekend and saw a new crazy golf but it was £4,50 for each player! Looking forward to seeing lots of faces we know around the village this year. The rate is at this time, €1.0789 to the GBP, still on a downward trend. I still think that by the middle of the year we will see a significant rise in the GBP as the tourist seasons get underway. Probably around the €1.20 to €1.25, about the same as the end of last summer.

Glad to hear that you've been able to find work again. It's a huge worry for so many just now. Will be booking my mum in to Nino's for Easter. You wait to see what they have been doing at the Coral over the winter. The back is going to look very smart. Stay in contact with us and we look forward to seeing you in August. ;D Julie

No sign of the 'euro' being devalued yet but, as from April 8th., eurozone interest rates will drop to an all-time low of 1.25%.
The European Central Bank is taking this action as a first measure to sustain the economies of the member countries.

I thought there might have been some fluctuation after the G20 Summit closed, but obviously we have to wait until the planned strategy sorted between Brown and Obama is put into place. I am still thinking that there will be significant change in the exchange rate come the middle of summer. To what degree I do not know.
Todays exchange rates against the very useless GBP is:
BBC Money News - €1.0419
LloydsTSB - €1.0973
Post Office - €1.0621
Lloyds and the Post Office will give back at the same rate on your return, and are commission free.

At my local Post Office yesterday I was quoted the rate of £1 to E1:0135, just great!!!!!! A couple of people who bank with the Nationwide have told me that there will shortly be an end to their policy of not charging for Euro withdrawals ATM in European countries.
I wonder what the exchange rate is in Roda, and if it varies there at different echange points?

The Nationwide rate today is 1.102 euro/GBP. I think if you look back a few weeks on forum postings, John, that there was a bit of panic about this announcement. As I remember, it concerned Visa charges and it does not apply to EU member countries, only to other places around the world. Steve
