Winter here in the village is a very quiet affair, but there are enough bars and food places to cater to us. We have pool and darts leagues and open matches throughout the winter. There are also a couple of quiz sessions to stretch the mind, not to mention several craft and table top fairs which bring people in from the wider area.
Roda always looks a bit worse for wear, especially along the beach front from The Boat House to Nino's on the beach and beyond. The winter storms wash up stones and the seaweed right across the road. This year the waves have demolished one of the benches outside Ammos grill room. At the moment both benches are engulfed with the sea weed. The worst of the stones have been bulldozed away from The Brandy Shop as far as The Boathouse. There is no need to worry as the council will be out immediately pre-season to restore everything.
The council is also replaceing the streetlights with energy saving LED bulbs, the crossroads is now extremely bright! The rest of the village will be done over the rest of the winter.
Just announce the Carnival in Corfu town will be celebrated this year in February for the first time in two years when many events and parades will take place between 5th and 29th Febrauary. The Italian influence can be seen with many people dressing up in stunning outfits like those that Venice is famous for.I hope to get down to see some of these festivities as I always missed them when Steve was alive as we were always on our travels then.
