At long last the bridge at the harbour was being repaired yesterday, with the missing boards being replaced. It still needs a good paint job, but the chains barring the foot bridge are still in place so maybe the painting will happen.

The repair work on the harbour bridge was completed yesterday. The hew boards feel very secure but there is still a small degree of movement in the original boards. The chain barring access has been removed.

Although not of much interest to our lovely visitors to Roda but we had joined the 'Click and Collect' communtiy with ACS now having these lockers in their office in Roda, though at the moment they are inside, and only available during opening hours, but it is progress. My friend uses ACS so I will check with her to see how its working.

Salvatore at Pixida has announced that the well loved restaurant will be closing after 19 years on the 8th. October. He and the restaurant will be sorely missed by both the locals and our visitors. The food served there was also very tasty authenic Italian cuisine. The restaurant is being advertised as a going cocern as a pizzeria. I am sure we wish Salvo and his team all the best for the future.

We have seen some activity with the fire spotting planes over the last couple of days, and even the two Canadair planes that collect sea water and dump it on fires have been seen in action. The fires are not here on Corfu but in a protected area of Albania and Greece has been lending a hand to get the wild fires under control. We had had one or two minor fires recently on the island but the were soon stamped on and very quicky put out. It is so good to seen the burnt areas that can be seen from the road to Kassiopi are now flushed with green from new grass and vegentation.

Our lovely little church, St George's, is getting a bit of a make-over. The blue and white Greek flags and yellow Corfiot flags with the double-headed eagle have been hung at the entrance and across the chrurchyard and the benches are getting a nice coat of pale grey paint. The church and it's grounds are lovingly tended by the villagers with fresh flowers placed in the church by the ladies and any maintainace kept on top of.

Sadly we had another quite severe wildfire yesterday at San Stephanos Avliotes in the north west of the island. The flames got very close to houses and an evacuation order was issued urging residents to go to the harbour. Thankfully they got the fire under controll, but some guests at the hotels got moved to other resorts to be on the safe side. I understand that a recsue cat centre was also involed in the evacuations. Some ended up here in Roda at the all-inclusive.The combined efforts of the firemen, fire-fighting planes and fire spotting planes, plus volunteers combined to form a well organised team to extinguish the flames. The heavy rains today will have finished the job off nicely.

I have noticed a new business in the building where Kalamaki Grill room used to be. This had just appeared whilst I was away on holiday. I will keep an eye on it to see when it opens.
