Good morning from Roda. And so, the gorgeous weather continues, if a bit cooler. We awoke to a heavy dew, clear skies and no wind to ruffle the leaves. The sea is calm between us and Albania, which is clearer than yesterday but not the crystal clear you get in the winter months. It looks like we will be taking advantage of this lovely weather and spend the afternoon on the beach and swimming in the still warm sea.
After setting up the new weather station, with the outdoor sensor being compared with two other thermometers and having managed to find out how to find the daily maximums and minimums we are now all set.
Yesterday was clear and cloudless all day with the wind not having the strength to do more than give us a gentle breeze. The starlit night arrived via the monochromatic band of orange that flooded the western horizon. It is surprising to us how much the sun has shifted its position in the skies in our absence. Where we were watching the sunset behind Roda Beach it is now going down behind the hill of Karousades. It was still quite a mild evening with the late temperature still 16°C.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Thursday 24th. October 2019 was 15.4°C. Real feel 15°C and dew point 10°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 25°C and the minimum was 16.0°C.
The maximum temperature this day in 2018 was 20.8°C and the minimum 12.6°C a mostly sunny day with a few clouds but extremely windy.
The reported UV for Today is 3 (Range 1- 11+) UK range 1- 8 The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around the summer solstice).
DEW POINT Less than 10°C feels dry Between 10°C and 18°C Feels comfortable Between 18°C and 26°C Feels increasingly humid and uncomfortable. At the highest it is unhealthy and even fatal for people with asthma
RODA AND CORFU TEMPERATURE EXTREMES The maximum temperature recorded by me in Roda in 2018 was 33.0°C real feel 35°C on 8th.June real feel 35°C. Good morning from Roda. The lovely weather is still with us, though we do have a tracery of thin clouds to mar the otherwise clear blue skies. There is the merest hint of a breeze, not enough to disturb the calmness of the pale blue sea with Albania standing clear across the channel. There is some haze, but it only softens the edges.
Yesterday was one of those very rare golden days that you just had to stop everything and just savour the moment. It is very hard to put into words what made yesterday so special, especially in the afternoon on the beach at Almyros. It was a heady cocktail of the light, the gentle lapping of the sea, the lack of abrasive noise and the right amount of heat. But it was the light that made the most impact, we just wanted to sit and enjoy the moment for as long as possible. There was a sereneness, a calmness that made you just happy to sit there and just completely relax and just be. Truly magical. We continued to enjoy the moment as we sat on our balcony overlooking the hills behind, sipping our cups of tea until we really had to move and do things. Some thin clouds had started to appear on the western horizon, but the sunset, what bit I saw, was quite low key as the sun was already behind headland. The evening was cool with a star strewn sky and just under 16°C at 10.30pm.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Friday 25th. October 2019 was 16.2°C. Real feel 16°C and dew point 14°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 21°C and the minimum was 12.2°C.

Good morning from Roda. We have clear skies this morning, a non-existent wind and a calm sea. The haze has reduced such that the sky seems even bluer and Albania even clearer. We might just be in for another perfect day. Well we’ll be on the beach for a swim this afternoon so will report back. Trying to take advantage of these fine days as a long period of rain is due at the end of next week. It is chilly in the morning with a heavy dew on the grass, we get very wet feet walking to the camper, and with that and the shorter days I am only getting one load of washing a day out. If we stayed in we could get more done, but there is no fun in that!
Yesterday was a good day, not as good as the day before as the sky stayed streaked with thin cloud for almost the whole time. A cooling afternoon breeze struck up, but not enough to chase us from the beach. The sea is still lovely to swim in, but that will change once that rain comes. We missed most of the sunset, just getting the pastel after effects, but it was a lovely sight with the mountains of Albania all shades of pinks and purples. The evening sky was bedecked with stars as we walked home from the village. The lights are definitely being turned off around the bay as there was less of a show to join those of the Albanian villages. It was a cool 16°C at 10.30pm.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Saturday 26th. October 2019 was 15.7°C. Real feel 16°C and dewpoint 11°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 21°C and the minimum was 12.0°C.
The maximum temperature this day in 2018 was 22.1°C and the minimum 9.4°C a sunny start to the day but calm and getting cloudy.

Good afternoon from a sunny Roda. We were back on recycling duties this morning followed by brunch, which will probably be the last one at Pirates then coffee at Skouna, again probably the last one of the season. This morning dawned bright and clear with not a cloud in the sky, the wind and the sea barely whispering. There is still a degree of haze but Albania is still quite clear across the channel. The mornings are getting a little chilly and we have a heavy dew each day now.
This photo was taken this afternoon, across the terrace at The Boathouse towards Acharavi, as we walked back from the village.
Yesterday was another lovely day, which stayed cloudless except for a few wispy streaks that appeared just before sunset. I caught the tail end of what would have been a glorious golden orange glow, before settling into a more pastel palette of colours. The afternoon sprung up to take the edge off the sun’s heat, but we still enjoyed a couple of hours on the beach and some good swims. The sea is cooling all the time and will be worse after the forecast rains next week. We’ll still try and get a November swim in though. The evening was clear calm and starlit bu, again, a little cool with the temperature 15°C by 11pm.
The temperature at 9.00 am on Sunday 27th. October 2019 was 15.4°C. Real feel 15°C and dewpoint 11°C.

Good afternoon from a sunny Roda. It is OXI day out here in Greece. The day is the equivalent of our remembrance Sunday, but it celebrates when general Metaxa told the Italians where to go when asked to surrender. Apparently, it diverted attention from the main event and bought time for the Allies. It was a lovely day for it, very hot in the sun, and all the cafes and restaurants were doing a roaring trade. We got to Ilo early to secure a seat as it has the best position with everything happening right in front of it. We were lucky enough to be seated next to a group of older gentlemen who sang a traditional lament in harmony and very quietly. A rare treat. The band and the school children marched proudly waving flags, some in traditional costume, those bearing the flag wore the uniforms of the services and those carrying the O X I were in classical dress. The priests, the mayor, police and other dignitaries saluted the parade after laying of the wreaths at the cenotaph and a short service. It is a very social event and practically everyone then went off to have a leisurely lunch with friends and family. In Roda, Roxannes had a large party going with dancing and plate smashing (not the clay variety!) Drossia was busy as were Nemos. In Acharavi all the restaurants were full with Alegria also having laid on a band. Whilst everyone was eating we headed to the beach for a nice couple of swims. The beach was just about deserted.
Yesterday was another lovely day with plenty of sunshine from the cloudless skies. The sea was a little more ruffled and we had long low waves breaking on the shore round the bay. The wind stayed away, but the haze stayed, but Albania was still clear enough and we could see the village lights at night. The switch off continues round the bay as more businesses call an end to the season. There feeling that it is getting cooler persists despite the lovely sun, it was 16°C at 10.30pm.
The temperature at 9.30 am on Monday 28th. October 2019 was 16.1°C. Real feel 16°C and dewpoint 11°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 21.4°C and the minimum was 12.1°C.
The maximum temperature this day in 2018 was 22.3°C and the minimum 18.7°C a warm but cloudy day, windy with drizzle and more pronounced showers in the evening. The reported UV for Today is 3 (Range 1- 11+) UK range 1- 8 The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around the summer solstice).

Good evening from Roda. Sorry for the late report but it has been a lovely day so we dawdled on the beach. It was our turn at the recycling again this morning after which we headed for a well-deserved coffee and then headed to the beach to take a final swim before a long spell of rain arrives. It was a beautiful start to the day with cloudless skies, no wind and a very calm sea. The haze is a bit denser but you can still see Albania across the channel.
Yesterday afternoon continued to be lovely and we enjoyed our swim on a near deserted beach. The afternoon breeze got up and gave us big rollers on the beach at Almyros and definite waves coming ashore here in Roda. There was another lovely monochromatic sunset leading onto a cool starlit night. We barely see a soul now on our walk to and from the village, but there are still a few tourists around as Roda Beach is still open. It was a cool 16°C at 10.30pm.
Here are some pictures taken at the parade for OXI day.

Good morning from Roda. The weather is changing and we awoke to cloudy skies with some blue patches and the sun making a valiant effort to make a comeback. There is no wind and the waves are silent, all we can hear now is the pitter patter of gently falling rain showers. However, it is very dark and threatening to the north west, so the predicted storms are on their way. It is still warm, and we could enjoy breakfast on the balcony. Steve has just reported distant thunder!
Yesterday was as near a perfect weather day for this time of year as you could get. Clear blue skies all day, the absence of any meaningful breeze and enough warmth to feel a gentle heat on your skin. There was more haze so the light wasn’t quite perfect, but it was enough for us to linger on the beach and enjoy the experience. There was alone tiny cloud hovering over one of the tallest Albanian peaks, which was joined later by some streaky ones on the western horizon. The day ended with a chilly note and a star strewn sky. We didn’t pass anyone on our walk in and out of the village, although there was still a family staying at Roda Beach in Pirates. It was a cool 15°C at 11pm.

Good afternoon from Roda. We had to go into town today so the report is late. This morning saw quite a nice start to the day with plenty of blue patches amongst clearing banks of clouds. There was no wind and the sea was flat calm. The morning stayed quite sunny, but we never lost the clouds entirely. The overnight rain was quickly drying on the roads leaving only puddles some hiding quite large potholes.
Yesterday was a lot better than forecast. The threatening clouds did give us very heavy showers of rain with thunder and lightning, but they did die away in the afternoon, and the sun made a brief appearance, albeit veiled by cloud, in time to make an attempt at a sunset. The evening remained dry, but there was a lovely display of lightning over Albania, later on joined by more on all sides. The thunder started once we were in and the rain lashed down for a time. The late evening temperature was 17°C, quite mild.

Good morning from Roda, and Kalo Mena for November. The new month has dawned bright and sunny, with some clouds dotted around. There is barely a breeze and the sea is flat calm. We have a haze but you can still see Albania in some detail. The first legal fires of the winter have been lit in the fields now that we have had rain to dampen the dry scrub left after the heat of the summer. It still lovely and warm though and we enjoyed breakfast on the balcony, maybe a bit too warm for my winter dressing gown. We must enjoy the sun while we have it as the forecast is for a long period of rain.
Yesterday, the clouds continued clearing to give us a good sunny period in the afternoon. It was exceptionally clear as we topped Troumpeta, the islands and Albania looked so close. The clouds were thicker to the south and crept towards us as the day went on. There were still good-sized patches of blue though so the sun wasn’t entirely lost. There was a good sunset, but the real beauty came after the sun had disappeared below the horizon and the big billowing clouds to the north and east of us flushed all shades of pink and lilac, all reflected beautifully in the flat calm sea. The night sky was filled with stars and a lovely crescent moon. The lack of any wind meant the sea remained flat calm as we walked back from the village. The temperature at 10.30pm was 15°C.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Friday 1st. November 2019 was 16.8°C.

Good morning from Roda. Today it was supposed to be gentle showers for most of the day. What we actually woke up to was mostly blue skies, quite a breeze, a calm and silent sea and great visibility with Albania looking very close as the Minoan ferry sailed passed, due in Igoumenitsa at 11.30am. The clouds are building to the west but I decided against putting a wash in as you could guarantee it would rain. Now, because I decided against the wash, it will stay lovely at least until the end of the afternoon. It was a very pleasant 20°C as we ate breakfast on the balcony, not bad for 2nd. November. We might even try for another swim this afternoon if the sun stays out.
Yesterday was mostly sunny with some clouds here and there. The haze persisted all day, added to on Corfu by the numerous fires of 1st November. All we will be able to smell for the future will be the tang of wood smoke. We managed a good swim in the afternoon, but a cooling afternoon breeze sent us packing. The sea is cool but if I can get in it isn’t that bad and, once swimming, it is very pleasant. We missed the sunset but the evening was clear with lots of stars a crescent moon and plenty of lights from Albania joining the remaining lights around our bay. The breeze had died away but it still felt chilly with the 11pm temperature 15°C.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Saturday 2nd. November 2019 was 19.3°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 22.5°C and the minimum was 13.4°C.
The maximum temperature this day in 2018 was 23.8°C and the minimum 16.8°C a sunny start to the day becoming increasingly cloudy and hazy from the legal fires, sun gone by sunset but skies cleared for the evening.. The reported UV for Today is 3 (Range 1- 11+) UK range 1- 8 The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around the summer solstice).

Good afternoon from Roda. We had our shift at the recycling centre this morning, mostly a very wet session, but we did have some shelter. We awoke to a dry start to the day, but it had obviously rained during the night. There were threatening clouds all around, with quite a wind rattling around. Albania had disappeared in a dark shroud with the weather forcing the ferry closer to Corfu as it sailed past. The sun wasn’t giving up entirely and was escaping from time to time with its presence seen by the brilliant white edges to the clouds. When the rain came though the murk descended the hillsides and closed in around us. The sea remained calm as it was a southerly wind.
Yesterday wasn’t nearly as bad as forecast, we even contemplated going for a swim. But, the breeze sprang up and the cloud thickened. So the promising morning gradually clouded over and the wind increased and we got drizzly showers from mid- afternoon onwards. The evening saw the breeze die away and there were enough gaps in the showers to get to and from the village dry. The sea stayed calm and it was mild with a temperature of 18°C at 10.30pm.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Sunday 3rd. November 2019 was 22.5°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 21.0°C and the minimum was 14.9°C.
