With Steve back in the UK I had the opportunity to have a better walk around the village. His knee has been playing up and walking was a bit of a chore.
I walked as far as Robello and saw the breakwaters of sand bags in place in front of the hotel in an attempt to make more beach. Not the prettiest things but at least they are sand coloured and should blend in eventually. Similar moves using rocks is having a good effect along by Nino's on the Beach and in front of the Coral. In places there is enough sand there for people to sit out, and there seems to only be a small ribbon of stones at the water's edge before you get to sand for a swim or a paddle.
Alexandros on the Beach looked very pretty with its blue and white decor, and it was good to see the little mini market next door seemingly busy. Some kind soul has built a little bridge on the beach leading from Afrodite towards Alexandros on the Beach. It means you don't have to go on the road to walk along. The ramps seem a little steep though. Further along back towards the village Roda Inn is finally showing signs of life. Yianis' new shop in the former Crusoes seems to be settling in well. As for La Luz, they have been working round the clock!. The furniture is now on the terraces and the sunbeds out ready for action. The tables are in place for the restaurant in the former Crusoe's beach side area. The bar furniture is also in. So apart from cleaning and final tidying up it almost seems ready to go. I will take photos next time am passing.
There seems to be some movement in the block of apartments next to and behind El Mar and Newport. We are watching to see if the much needed improvements take place.
Crusoes seems to be getting more customers now the season is in getting into full swing and the sunbeds seem quite popular.
The harbour Bar has added screens to protect from the sea breezes, but have also added a very attractive terrace. Looking very good. The little shop attached to the Harbour have become two with the closest one specialising in Corfu products.
The Coral Hotel must have made extra rooma available as the family have moved out into the refurbished houses next door. They have been done up beautifully and brought right up to date. They are where Efftichia's sister Nina used to live, also the man with down's syndrome who sadly died a year ago. The roadside has been cleaned up so a vast improvement all the way to Nino's. The Dutch owned holiday bungalows have also seen changes with the small house on the front being given more height and new windows and doors. It is looking very nice.
