Tell you what anyone having a look at all the views you can see the one that made it for me was when I turned the corner at the Afrodite and saw everything that Paula had described. She had been once before -her parents 23 years running. Love at first sight.

It’s good to be back in Roda and we can see lots of things to mention straight away. Parts of the old wall around the George & Dragon were collapsing last year and we see that George is hard at it repairing things to stop his plants falling on to the road. There seems to be plenty going on at Theodoros as usual, with new gates across the entrance and lots behind the scenes. Danny thinks that the drainage pipe installation may start heading closer to Roda in the next couple of days, The Boathouse is almost ready to open and there is lots happening at both Roxannes and Skouna. I’m afraid that several of our seafront date palms have been affected by the beetle, but none have totally succumbed yet. They can recover, so fingers crossed. I did read that the way the palms are pruned can help reduce the problem, but no one seems to be doing it the best way at the moment. Work is steaming ahead in Spiro’s new shop (what was Stella’s Bar) which will be selling traditional products from Corfu & Ioannina, and Roda Park expects to open around the 20th. Kostas believes that all businesses will be open for May 1st even though it is both Mayday and Easter Sunday.
There was an early cruise ship in Corfu Town today and the whole area has been given a big facelift, with the new dual carriageway completed alongside the port office, it all looks very smart. Lined up on the dockside were six open-topped sightseeing buses, including two very posh single deckers with sliding canopies. Corfu City Tours could be a big thing this year. Throughout France & Italy, we have been pleased to see the Judas trees in various stages of bloom, but nowhere have we seen more blossom than we have today. Corfu is a riot of colour at the moment with yellow broom, white asphodels, wild almonds and banks full of flowering wild sage.

For the last couple of years, ‘Mark’ has occupied Maggie’s old restaurant site, selling consumables to the trade. They have now moved on to the main road and the premises have been taken over by Alekos & Louise, having relocated their Souvenir shop from next door to the new doctor’s practice where Mistral used to be.

The latest places to open are ‘Yummies’ & ‘Five Roses.’ The rest seem to be dragging their heels.

It seems as though the fact that Easter Sunday, Mayday and the start of the season all happened on the same day confused people a bit this year. I have always told visitors that, even though businesses may close early in October, they are all open on May 1st - well not this year! Having said that, there is finally an air of activity in Roda tonight as more tourists arrive, people finally open the doors, and the beach is being cleared by moonlight. Maybe this coming weekend it will be more like the holiday village that everyone enjoys.
