Good morning from a sunny Roda, yes we have clear blue skies, sunshine and a gentle breeze. The usual heat haze is here so Albania is all but absent and our hills are not as defined as they could be. Yesterday was a standard summers' day in Roda, sunshine, clear blue skies and the afternoon breeze making it comfortable for everyone. The day slid into a very pleasant evening with the temperature in the sun 35oC at 8pm, though by midnight it was starting to feel a bit cool sitting beside the sea at The Boathouse, but had a few too many wines (early celebration of Sue's birthday today) to read the temperatures when I got home.
Today's readings at 10am on 13th July are:- Temperature 24.3oC and humidity 74% Yesterday's maximum temperature was 27.2oC and the minimum was 20.0oC. the maximum humidity was 74% and the minimum 55% The reported UV for today is 9 (Range 1- 11) so again Aussie rules apply same as yesterday

OK , just to be boring, we have blue skies, no clouds, sunshine, and the gentlest of breezes to ruffle the sea. Albania and our hills are doing their usual thing, i.e. for the former just about a smudge on the horizon and the latter indistinct. Yesterday was glorious, we had endless blue skies with only the occasional tiny white cloud having the temerity to show its face. The mainland on the other hand seemed to have a cap of cloud all day. The humidity dropped in the late afternoon/ early evening to a lovely 48% which gave a lovely clear view of our lovely hills, but it started rising again to it's usual 70 odd per cent. It was a warm evening with temperatures in the sun at 8pm being 39oC and 25oC at 11.30pm. The forecast for the rest of the week is reporting that the temperature will rise to a hefty 39oC by Friday, so, to those people about to visit our lovely Roda and Corfu please take extra care in the sun.
The readings today at 9.30am on 14th July are:- Temperature 24.6oC and humidity 67% The maximum temperature yesterday was 29.4oC and the minimum 20.1oC, the maximum humidity was 76% and the minimum 48% The reported UV for today is 9 (Range 1- 11) sunscreen and Aussie rules apply.

Great to see the temp in figures. Can you put the posts in descending order by date so the most recent post appears on page 1?

Great to see the temp in figures. Can you put the posts in descending order by date so the most recent post appears on page 1? Hi Rose, I will look into that, but I don't think I can. I might be able to fix the latest report to the top but then un fix it for the next day. We are having our weekly get together tomorrow so will ask for advice. So pleased you like my little report though Jan

Good morning from a sunny Roda. I think we have settled into high summer now, though the BBC forecast a thunder storm this morning we have no clouds at all at the moment. It is hot and sunny with only the gentlest of warm breezes. Albania is a smudge and our hills lack detail. Yesterday was lovely all day, and the high humidity that had been with us from the start eased in the early evening to gives us lovely clarity. The complete lack of clouds gave us a lovely sunset, but not the truly spectacular ones when we have some clouds. The evening was warm with temperatures in the sun of 38oC at 8pm and it was still 26oC at midnight.
Today's readings at 10am are:- Temperature 25.8oC and humidity 67% Yesterday's maximum temperature was 29.4oC and the minimum 20.7oC, the maximum humidity was 79% and the minimum 44% The reported UV for today is 8 (Range 1- 11) Protect yourself from that sun it bites!

Good morning from Roda. We have sunshine, clear blue skies, a gentle breeze, heat haze and HEAT! It is going to be warm today. Yesterday was lovely but hot, though the maximum shade temperature was not that high at 30oC the real feel was a lot higher due to the humidity and a dew point of 22oC. Even at 8pm it was still nearly 40oC in full sun, and the evening hardly cooled down at all to give readings of 29.7oC at 9..45pm and 25.7oC at 12.40am. The evening humidity dropped into the 40's and 50's but it was still uncomfortable until late evening. Doing a quick check of the weather stations around the north of the island this morning the temperature difference between them is quite marked with the range being 27oC at Arillas and 34oC at Doukades!. The west and north coast ones were generally in the bottom of the range at 27- 30oC.
Today's readings at 10am are:- Temperature 26.6oC and humidity 64% Yesterday's maximum temperature was 30.3oC and the minimum 22oC, the maximum humidity was 75% and the minimum 45% The reported UV for today is 8 (Range 1- 11) so use plenty of sunscreen.
Just a note to say that we do not have aircon as it affects our breathing too much, but we have a ceiling fan. The temperature inside the apartment yesterday only ranged from 27.5- 28.5oC, so for the first time this year the fan stayed on all night with the window open as well (protected by mossie screen). No bedding required, too hot!

Good morning from a hot and sunny Roda, cloudless skies and a gentle breeze. Yesterday was hot, sunny and very warm right into the evening. There was the now usual drop in humidity to give a clear evening. At 7.40pm it was 38.6oC in the sun with 43% humidity and 26.5oC and 52% humidity at midnight. Today looks like it will be the same, but we are expecting higher temperatures in the next few days! Thankfully are temperatures are bit more moderate than south and east of us as we get the prevailing cooling breezes.
Today's readings at 10am on 17th July are:- Temperature 27.1oC and humidity 63% Yesterday's maximum temperature was 31.0oC and the minimum 22.1oC, the maximum humidity was 70% and the minimum 41% The reported UV for today is 8 (Range 1- 11) I don't need to say to slap on that sunscreen and obey the Aussie rules.

Good morning from Roda. It is hot, sunny with blue skies and barely a breeze. Albania has disappeared from view and our hills are in half a mind to join her. Yesterday was no different from the previous days, in that it was very hot, sunny with no real wind to speak of. Again the heat lasted into the evening with it recording 38oC in the sun at 8pm and 27oC at 11.30pm. It was a warm night with the temperature only falling to around 23oC at dawn. The high dew point is making it feel a bit uncomfortable, cooling off in the pool or sea is a must, and drink plenty of water. We are still experiencing the cooling breezes that the north and north west get which is keeping this area a few degrees cooler than the north east and central regions of the island. Something to be grateful for.
Today's readings at 9.50am on 18th July are:- Temperature 26.4oC and humidity 69% Yesterday's maximum temperature was 31.0oC and the minimum 22.2oC, the maximum humidity was 67% and the minimum 50% The reported UV for today is 8 (Range 1- 11) slap on that sunscreen and seek shade.

What can I say different about the weather here today. It is still hot sunny with clear blue skies, the only clouds are over the mainland, and the breeze is still gentle. The heat haze has got worse, so Albania is barely there and our hills are just outlines. It has been feeling a bit uncomfortable recently but that is the combined effect of the high temperature, the high dew point and the high humidity. The high humidity has the effect, with high temperature, of giving a real feel temperature higher than the true temperature. We are experiencing high temperature at night making it feel hot and sticky when we are trying to sleep. Yesterday we had 35oC in the sun at 8pm and 29oC at 10pm. During the day we had had a dew point of 24oC together with a humidity of 70% which gave an extremely uncomfortable and fairly oppressive feel to the day. A prime example of that effect is that I went swimming around 5.30pm and my hair, left to do its own thing as we were staying in, was still damp when I went to bed around 11.30pm! The atmosphere could take not much more water!
Today's readings at 9.50am on 19th July are:- Temeperature 27.8oC (Real feel 31oC) and humidity 69% Yesterday's maximum temperature was 30.1oC and the minimum 22.8oC, the maximum humidity was 72% and the minimum 58% The reported UV for today is 8 (range 1- 11) so protect your skin.

Good morning from a summery Roda. We have sunshine, clear blue skies, a gentle breeze and the expected heat haze at this time of year. Apparently Corfu is on the southern tip of an area of high temperature that is covering Spain, Italy southern Europe and the Balkans. In some areas it is producing temperatures up to 10oC higher than the norm for this time of year. I think that we can be grateful here in Roda that we catch what little cooling breezes there are and still give us the lovely hot settled weather that everyone wants on their holidays. Yesterday was hot, hot, hot, with the high humidity and dew points causing the real feel of the temperature to be quite a bit higher than actual. There was no relief as evening came, with the temperature in the sun hitting 40.1oC at 8pm with 47% humidity. It was still 27oC at 11.30pm and only dropped to 23oC at dawn. The drop in humidity in the early evening makes things feel more bearable and gives a lovely clarity to our hills behind us.
Today's readings at 9.30am on 20th. July are:- Temperature 28.0oC (Real feel 28oC) and humidity 58% Yesterday's maximum temperature 31.3oC and the minimum 23.9oC, the maximum humidity was 73% and the minimum 46% The reported UV for today is 8 (Range 1- 11) Sunscreen and shade required today.

And so the heat continues but, believe it or not, we are still marginally below the seasonal average, measured over many years. As Jan said yesterday, Roda does benefit from sea breezes, a fact confirmed last night as we travelled into Corfu Town. The temperature in Roda at 7pm was 31°C, which rose to 33°C as we dropped to lower ground approaching town. Most forecasts are based on figures in Corfu Town. What’s causing the discomfort is not high temperatures, but the ability of the air to absorb moisture – or at least, the lack of it. Once the dew point rises above 20°C, we are increasingly less able to lose body heat – so lots to drink at the moment, please.
Yesterday’s highest temperature in Roda, was 31.2°C, but with 71% humidity, it felt more like 38°C. That equates to a dew point of almost 25°C which is becoming officially oppressive. The humidity did drop as usual in the early evening bringing some relief but I suspect it’s more of the same today.
Today’s readings at 9:30 on Tuesday July 21st, were:
Temperature 28.3°C (Reelfeel 30°C) and humidity of 63%, so even higher than yesterday! At that time, the dew point already stood at 21°C.
Our lowest temperature yesterday was 23.2°C with a humidity of 45%, bringing us drier air that was very welcome.
UV is again reported to be very high at 9, so watch the rays two hours either side of noon.

Just to confuse everyone, or maybe to clarify things, the outside shade temperature in Roda right now is 28.7 degC, feeling like 33 degC. One forecast for Corfu Town was predicting 37 degC for noon, feeling like 57 degC! I know you’re on holiday, but I think we need a brief storm to clear the air.

How much more before the weather breaks? The airborne moisture is now very obvious, but the rain forecast for Tuesday evening did not materialise in Roda. Looking at the sky yesterday, it was sometimes difficult to say whether it was blue, or cloudy, and high cloud did begin to form in the afternoon. & evening. Maybe we’ll get some precipitation overnight or tomorrow. I wonder what it will take to release all that moisture from the atmosphere.
At midnight, the temperature was steady at 28.6°C, with humidity down to 59% - only just within the comfort zone and feeling more like 31°C. I suspect the aircon appliances around Roda are working overtime. Yesterday’s highest shade temperature was 31.8°C with 72% humidity, making it feel more like 41°C.
Today is starting much the same as yesterday – very hazy and humid with hills & mountains bleached by the moisture. At 10:00 am, today, Wednesday July 22nd, the readings were:
Temperature 28.7°C with a humidity of 70% - significantly higher than yesterday. At the moment it feels like 33°C with a dewpoint of 23°C making it decidedly sticky.
The lowest temperature yesterday was 25°C with humidity at 47% - no blankets required last night!
9 is the forecast UV level again today, so lots of care in the middle four hours of the day please.

I was going to sing “Let it go!”, but the moisture in the atmosphere seems a little lower this morning, or at least a little later in building up. Yesterday, you could cut the atmosphere with a knife and, at one time around noon, even the headland at Almiros almost disappeared. With the dew point ever so slightly lower, even Albania has put in a brief appearance today … but can it keep up appearances? I suspect that what we need most is the so-called ‘civilised’ wind we know as the Maistro. Blowing down from Italy it normally clears our summer humidity every ten days or so. The heatwave across the Mediterranean seems to have changed all that and it is now almost a month since we had anything like a wind from the sea, and even then it was a bit whimpish. This has allowed the moisture to build up and affect how we feel in what are really very normal summer temperatures.
Yesterday’s highest temperature in Roda was 32.9°C, with humidity peaking at 73%. This represented a ‘reelfeel’ of 45°C and the dew point must have hit a record 27°C – higher than anything I can find for the island previously. One forum member arriving recently thought the heat was so intense it must be from the jet engines!
The lowest temperature yesterday was 24.5°C with humidity at 54% - it was very warm last night!
Today’s readings at 10:00 am were:
Temperature 29.1°C, and humidity 53%. This combination puts us just inside the comfort band, moisture wise, but the humidity is now rising.
UV today has dropped a little to 8, but that still means there is a very high risk of burning. This week’s arrivals were looking decidedly pink yesterday. A dew point of 27°C is rated as ‘severely high’, and if you suffer from asthma, or any other respiratory condition, please take care.

I heard a rumble or two of thunder at 6pm yesterday and evidently it rained in Kassiopi for ten minutes. Everyone ran into the streets with their arms out!
