That's a lot of rain in Dimitri's photos, but it's all in a good cause - twelve weeks or so from now, and this is what it produces.

Hi Chris, we manage to identify many of the flowers in Corfu, but this one we don't know. In the Spring, it's everywhere - what we need is a good book on Greek flowers at an affordable price.

Wish it could stay like this for the whole of summer...... we were on the island in the beginning of june once, and I especially remember the beautiful yellow of broom ("brem" in Dutch). And about the purple flowers, I don't know when this picture was taken, but in Holland in the month of May we have a (wild) flower with the same colour and its called "pinksterbloem" translated cuckooflower. It looks very much like the one on the photo.

Hi Chris, we manage to identify many of the flowers in Corfu, but this one we don't know. The tree is a cultivated pear tree, although there are lots of wild ones around Roda as well and they are spectacular. In the Spring, the pink flower is everywhere, if I remember, I'll take a couple of close-ups when they come out - what we need is a good book on Greek flowers at an affordable price.

You're right, Petra - I believe it is 'Spanish Broom' and it's considered to be a bit of a pest. Does this look like a pest to you?

We have Cuckoo Flowers also, Petra, also known as Mayflowers even though they appear in April. It's not them as they are more daisy-like in appearance, grow in clusters and are shorter stemmed.

Nothing like a pest, steve/julie!! A beautiful combination with the beautiful site of Kouloura. Just as beautiful as the music of Notis Sfakianakis I am listening to at the moment.....

Remember this thread from December - well they're out in flower again and finally I have identified them. They are 'Dove's-foot Cranesbill' or 'geranium molle' and I believe the Greek word 'geranos' refers to a crane's bill. In the UK, there is always some confusion between our beloved geraniums and the wild meadow cranesbill. To see some great photos of it, take a look at DOVE'S FOOT CRANESBILL
