Hi All,
First of all a big thanks to all the useful info on this site - really useful when planning a holiday!
We are going to be hiring a car from Dromeas for the duration of our stay at Ninos on the Beach, Roda and where wondering if any one has any suggestions on trips out in the area. We will definately be going into Corfu Town, but any other suggestions/recommendations appreciated. ;D
Would like a nice accessible rocky cove for snorkelling, a good beach with a greek taverna (some site suggest Kaminaki, Avlaki and Kerasia) - are these easy to find? Any traditional greek villages near to Roda? Is Agios Spiridion worth a visit?
Although we will be hiring a car, we ideally want to stay North Corfu, the furthest we will travel will be Paleokastritsa (we stayed in Agios Gordios last year)
Thankyou
xx

Hi, if you are going to Corfu Town I wouldnt take the car as the parking is horrendous - it will be easier to use the bus. Nymfes is a traditional village and not far from Roda - I think the best (sandy) beaches are to be found on the West coast.
regards, Kath

Avlaki could be good for snorkelling, Jules. I haven't been for a couple of years but it is a great place to swim when the maestros are blowing. It is/was not overdeveloped and there are a couple of tavernas.
St Spiridon was a great favourite until they built the all-inclusive. Still worth a look at to see if it suits.
Kerasia used to have a single taverna, but never been to Kaminaki. For a beach with a taverna, Astrakeri is close by and very popular. On the way to Sidari, there is also Yialos and Ag. Andreas - both with tavernas. On the way to Kassiopi, there are several alongside of the road. Some of these are sandy places, some are more suitable fro swimming. Maybe the fun is in finding your own. Inland there is lots of choice starting with nearby Sfakera and rising to the island's highest village, Strinilas.

hi julesholiday, if you want to drive to corfutown you have to know where is the best place to park. Don't drive into the centre but look for the parking in front of the busstation /near the new fortress walls. (no guarantee, but we always found a place to park) Coming from the north you turn left at the trafficlights just before Corfutown (the big crossing) . Drive along the sea, the harbour where the big ferries are and the "strip"/ the area where all the bars/disco's are... Then just before you see the small harbour (left) and new fortress is on the righthand side, there is/are 2 parkingplaces on your righthandside, inbetween the road that leads to the busstation and the steep road that leads up and around the fortress. Leaving the parking you turn right, either walk along the sea/harbour towards the centre or walk up the steep hill to the marketplace and after ,you turn left into the centre of town, Theotoki street. Hope this helps. maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=nl&geocode=&q=markora+street+corfu+town&aq=&sll=39.602514,19.905853&sspn=0.544917,1.234589&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Markora,+Kerkyra+49100,+Kerkyra,+Griekenland&ll=39.625177,19.91478&spn=0.004462,0.009645&z=17

Hi,
Yes we had already discussed we would be getting the bus into Corfu Town. From our past experiences it's difficult to park, and the bus service is just as good.
We are hoping to use the car to visit places nearby to Roda (20km - 30km radius max), we have already explored other parts of the island but have never been to North Corfu.
Does anyone know if Cosmic Travel arrange pick ups in resort for their boat trips which leave Kassiopi? Or if there are any other travel companies in resort offering boat trips xxx

Hi Jules. We go to Corfu town every year we have been lucky I guess reading how bad parking spaces are. But we have never had a problem parking down by the Port. Its easy to find as you just look for the big ships and ferries . One draw back is the walk into the town. Takes about 15 minutes to get into the cener I guess but I alway do a bit of window shopping on my way so it takes us a lot longer.. As for snorkling we tend to go back to Paleokastritsa and use the small beach at the end of the car park on the right hand side and right into Paleokastritsa. There are many places to snorkle but this place always brings us back and we have a lovely fish meal in the Tavernia on the left hand side carpark ..

Hi Jules, all the travel shops in the village offer boat trips, i believe N.S.K are using Captain Arris's boat this year, i've been on that one & think it is a decent size, not too big but big enough to cope if the sea gets a bit choppy. pete.

Hi Jules - Captain Aris cruises are bookable through NSKRena travel and leave from Imerolia just our side of Kassiopi. Cosmic are available through HN Travel and leave from Kassiopi itself. All trips include transfers from Roda.
