The new joint-venture travel office in the Pangalos building is very busy this year in spite of there being less visitors so far. For those in the village this week, there is a special trip on Saturday May 21st., to a traditional festival in one of my favourite villages, Nymfes. For those who don't know Nymfes, it is at the top of a valley just a few kilomtres from Roda, and the festival is held in the park at the top of the village. I believe that Nymfes has some 1200 inhabitants and about thirteen churches. It will be a great evening and everyone will turn out. The cost from Nostos will be €9 per person and the trip will run from 8:00pm until 12:00 midnight - or thereabouts. Live bouzouki music, side stalls, and the ever-present roast lamb and souvlaki.
On the same day, there is a €10 trip to Corfu Town to join in seperate celebrations with marching bands & other processions. Another trip to be savoured.
I hope the new agency continues to run these special trips throughout the season as it gives even long-term visitors a chance to join in festivals they might otherwise have missed.
Rena or Panayiota can now contacted on a new telephone number of (0030) 26630 64631, or by email on NSK-R@otenet.gr.
Today's exchange rate is displayed as €1.13 to 1 GBP. With commission, this will drop by about 2 cents.

Hi Steve, My wife and i enjoyed a trip via Rena at NSK to Kassiopia on Sunday 8th May 2011 for the local festival being held there. Left Roda at 8pm via coach and returned to Roda about 12.30am. An excellent night out for a mere 8 Euro's per head. I hope to post some pics on that trip soon. Long may Rena continue to offer these types of excursions - a refreshing change from the well trodden tourist path I hope she gets all the support she deserves this season for her bold move into the lovely new premises she now occupies. And besides that she is such a lovely person to deal with.

I totally agree holidayman, these local trips are could be numerous, different and more cost effective. I guess that costs are less because local suppliers are involved and the agency can make a profit as well. Last year, Rena was making just €1 on a trip to Paleo on the glass-bottomed boat. I guess the only one to profit was the boat owner.

Steve- Did you know that Rena told last week me she has now bought the Glass Bottom Boat and intends to run it this season at a cheaper price. A great deal for all it seems and good luck to her!

Hi holidayman - I think the boat you refer to is the one now at Kassiopi, not the one at Paleo.

Jacks if you are interested Rena at NSK in the village is doing a a Paxos/AntiPaxos/Blue Caves boat trip this year from Roda at 25 Euro's per person We did it last week and it was superb. Early pick up though at 7.15 or 7.45am taken on coach to Benitsis Port and sail from there to Paxos then Anti Paxos then Blue Caves which are stunning. Stop for lunch or swimming from boat for 1 hour then sail to Gaios village for a 2 hour stop before sailing back to Benitsis to join coach back to Roda arriving back approx 9pm. The boat is not to big maybe holds 50 - 70 and is quite fast. A nice day out and a chance to see other locations at a reasonable price.

I've done Paxos/Anti Paxos twice before, but Colin's never been. It might be one for us to think about.
Gonna have a good look at some of the trips when we get there & see what ones we fancy. We're hoping to do maybe 3 or 4 this year - weather permitting!

Rena has lots of unusual trips as well as the standard ones for this year - i am sure you will find something to suit you both.
