Increasing numbers of holiday travellers are arriving in Roda with their laptops, wanting to keep in touch with friends, family and business wherever they may be. Roda may be a timeless Greek village, ambling along at its own speed, but it has a foot firmly in the 21st century. Free wireless access is available at a number of hotels and bars around the village, where the wonders of Wi-Fi allows users to send and receive data through ‘thin air.’ If you are within 20 to 30 metres of an access point, you can enjoy free surfing to your hearts content – just remember to buy at least one drink from your hosts. In some places, you will need to ask for the access code, but generally, if your laptop has a wireless capability, you just sit back, relax with a cold drink, and surf to your heart’s content. If you arrive in Roda and find that you need help with or accessories for your computer, then just a few minutes away is Data Expert – a service and accessory shop where the staff speak English, the service is fast and the expertise impressive. In the village there are many places where you can surf for free, three of the most popular venues being Pirates’ Bar, Tropicana Island and Smiley’s Bar & Restaurant. All are easy to find and you and your laptop are assured of a friendly welcome. You may find that speeds vary from one location to another as the various owners use different bandwidth packages to insure that one customer cannot interrupt the activity of another. You should also know that any usage is automatically logged off when finished. For all your accessories when in Roda, contact: ...and these are just three of the bars where you can enjoy access - there are many more.

from personal experience I have found the Wi-Fi at Nemo cafe to be the fastest in the village

I have to admit the last thing I want to take on holiday with me is a laptop or netbook closely followed by a mobile phone. That way I can concentrate on relaxing and unwinding safe in the knowledge that nobody from back home can bother me. Paradise!!

True, but a lot of people nowadays have iPhones, Blackberry's etc which have wi-fi access on them, I know last summer the teenagers were desperate to be near wi-fi so they could keep in contact with friends!! Even my friends when they visited on holiday were chomping at the bit when they couldn't access facebook lol

I'm with you Kernowman but as Rachel says, my daughter too likes to keep her life support machine switched on at all times - and heaven forfend if she was off facebook for more than a nano second!

having a Blackberry and a facebook addict I am glad of wifi but I only bring my blackberry/ mobile phone to keep in touch with my 2 sons whilst in Roda. I don't even like to see news, paper or TV until fully relaxed, usually the 2nd week.

I have brought my laptop in the past, but mostly for music purposes - did use the Internet a couple of times 2 years ago, but that's it. More to do with my time in Roda than spend it online. Everything can wait till i'm home again!

Wi-Not. Because I have saved large amounts to get me and my wife on holiday for that annual rest and recuperation. So to be honest, the last thing we need or want is to have that urge to use a laptop, notebook or mobile phone (blackberry) whislt away, so they are all put away at home. What I do, is leave the telephone number of the accommodation we stay at, and details of how to get through to authorities in the country we are visiting, if my family at home need to get in touch. Two weeks of bliss.

Generally I try and avoid taking my Blackberry out on tour. I spend all my life around technology so it is nice to get away from it. However it is a good thing to have if you are desperate to get hold of some one back home.
