Speaking at the Global Travel Group conference in Leicester, the managing director of Monarch Travel Group tour operations division, said the group was currently considering an increase in regional flying from 2012.
He said the group was looking at basing aircraft in Bristol, East Midlands and Newcastle airports and added that a decision would be made "very soon" once the company had evaluated all the logistics involved.

On the back of Monarch's announcement, Cosmos Holidays have made the same pledge.

I have travelled to Roda for 24 years and enjoyed all my holidays .For the last 8 years have booked flight only and got my own accomodation now find that the flights from Newcastle are £319 for one week...that is expensive as last year paid £167 Many people like me will be feeling the pinch,so will not be able to afford the flight over.

Val, I can wholeheartedly recommend Jet 2. I foung their prices good, service superb , more leg room and everyone connected with them very helpful and polite. I didn't try out their meals but the smells coming from the galley were very tempting. On-line Check-in was a dream. Although we've booked a package with Olympic we're still flying with jet 2 from Newcastle. Although we live closer to Glasgow Airport than to Newcastle, it actually works out cheaper for us to go via Newcastle !! Hope this is of some use... Johno

I seem to remember a customer survey last year that put Jet2 and Newcastle airport at the top of the league.
