In contrast to summer, most of the winter in Roda is in the grip of southerly or easterly winds. For a couple of days we have had the usual southerlies with strong, gusting winds and lots of cloud & rain - and then it changed. Tonight, we have got one of the more well-known maistros - the north westerly winds that make the island bearable during those hot summer months. This time though - the winds are blowing, the sea is raging, the waves are crossing the beachfront road, but it is amazingly mild. I just took a short walk along the seafront, with just a shirt & jumper on, in 20 mph winds with spray lashing over the sea wall. Turn any corner, away from the wind, and it is very comfortable. This is winter, Corfu style, too rough, too wet, and too unfriendly for many, but an awful lot better than most of us are used to.
