What with the Israeli embassy in Turkey being attacked and active terrorist groups targeting western interests in that country; with riots in other heavily promoted tourist destinations like Tunisia and now Egypt, Greece is looking quite good at the moment for a holiday in the sun. In Spain there are the problems associated with massive unemployment and, in Italy, the ever-present threat of petty theft, one might wonder where to go this summer for a well-earned break.
Prices in Greece are being brought into line with the rest of Europe as per the grand master plan for member countries, and there are sometimes enthusiastic protests in Athens in respect of prices and pensions, but life on the islands carries on much as before. Locals are smarting from the pressure of an unstable world economy, but I wouldn’t mind betting that, because of their grasp of basic values and long history of democracy, the Greeks will be one of the most resilient of peoples in a troubled world. If the prospect of yet another glorious northern European summer fails to excite you, there can be no better destination than Greece for 2011.

You are so right Steve. After receiving an email from Thomas Cook yesterday I decided to have a look at their 'Late Deals' and lo and behold everyone was for - yes you've probably guessed - Sharm-el Sheik. No thanks, I'll stick to my wonderful Roda in Corfu.
