More bad weather in Corfu unfortunately ! I just read about last nights' heavy rainfall in Greece. In the night from Tuesday to Wednesday: significant damage mainly on Corfu. Emergency services have rescued several people from flooded homes, a local radio station reported. The fire department was at work all night. A woman was injured and dozens of cars, homes and businesses were damaged. Meteorologists speak of the heaviest rainfall in the past forty years. I will let you know if I have more information.

I cannot find the time to translate all of this (and google translate doens't make sense most of the time)...but looking at the photo's in this article...it is very bad!!!! www.corfupress.com/bulletin/201011175914/eidiseis/koinonia/eikones-biblikis-katastrofis___So far I think the part of the island that has been "hit" is Corfutown and Kato Garouna, Benitses, Messonghi (south). It's really, really bad... No news from the FB friends in Roda yet, might be they have electricityproblems again so no internet...

Following on from Petra's note i have had a phone call this morning from Pipitsa her self. She is very upset, as are her family at the scale of the damage that has been done to the family business in Corfu town, the entire basement of the building ( some 800 sq meters) has been completely flooded, ruining fridges, freezers, the lift to the ground floor as well as all the stock.Although insured they will only get about half of the estimated 300.000 euros required to put it all right because the insurance company say that the insurance was for the whole building and only the basement was damaged. Pipitsa has been overwhelmed by the messages of support and sympathy from forum members and has asked me to tell you that it is not her house that has been damaged but the business which is in another part of town, the flooding was caused by the nearby river bursting it's banks during the severe storms last week. Pipitsa would like to thank you all, through this post, for your kind words and good wishes - she says it is wonderfull that so many people thought about her & she hopes we all have a good winter. Once again, on behalf of Pipitsa - thank you. pete.

Crazy, crazy!! While the UK shivers under a blanket of snow and strong north easterly winds, Corfu is now in the grip of a southerly blow that has today gusted to 74km/hour and caused temperatures to peak at 230C. The thunderstorms can't be far away!

The winds have dropped today, but the temperature has not been affected. It's after midnight and it is still 16 0C - everyone is marvelling at just how warm it is. The down side? Rain + high temperatures = MOZZIES! I cannot remember them so late in the year. Which is best for you - snow or mozzies?

The mozzies don't bother me once i've got my eau de raid on, whereas minus 8 going to work this morning was not a pleasant experience ! pete.

I am thinking I could handle the mozzie's so long as it is warm. Being in Wales right now and most parts of the UK would say the same thing. Ultrathon is better than raid for me but I bought a brilliant spray for next year .. Looking forward to using it ;o)

I wonder if Michael Fish is now working for ViaMichelin weather. The still, warm weather has come abruptly to an end today as the southerlies turned 1800. Via Michelin is currently showing winds if just 7km/h which we would all dispute if we walked along the sea wall at Perama tonight. The seas are lashing over the wall by Spiro's shop and reaching the paved area in front. I would guess that the winds are in excess of 80 km/h from the north and the dog has dived for cover. This morning, there was a new sandy beach from the Coral along to Ammos Bar - tonight it is all stones and tree stumps. We'll see what tomorrow brings.
