I have to go back to the UK on Saturday and I'll be away for three weeks without internet access. In Roda, some places, like OPA & Five Roses, have closed for a short break, and are now re-opening for the winter (on November 6th). Roda Beach is reputed to be employing 400 workers this winter to refurbish - it will be like the Klondike. The pipes are being joined up along the Acharavi sea front road which must mean the drainage scheme will proceed a little further. Staff at various bars etc are deciding whether to stay or leave and one or two new faces are appearing. Plans for next year are being talked about. The last of the tourists are strolling around between the showers and all seem thouroughly relaxed. Stacy's new baby Dimitris is believed to be recovering well following an ear infection and one or two people are still swimming in the sea. Angelos & Spiros are the best of pals and can be seen chasing along the road holding hands or arguing over who gets a ride and, thanks Petra, today was OXI day - a national holiday.
Weather-wise, no two years are the same, I always think, and if this October is anything to go by, get booked now for 2011. In my memory, it has been by far the wettest October this millenium, with 240mm of rainfall (almost 10") recorded so far. Yesterday, was the climax and last night it went crazy. The roads were like rivers when the storm reached its peak and guess who had to go out to eat because he had no electricity for 24 hours? It was seriously dangerous walking through Roda at 7:30 in bare feet! This is just a little of what happened - the skies went quite yellow just before the big one.
