My guess is that in six years or so, when the system is fully operational, you will be able to travel from the UK all the way to the ports of Venice or Ancona on high-speed trains.
Journey time from London - Paris - Milan - Venice should take about 10 hours plus stops.

Even from Scotland this would be an attractive alternative to driving. Overnight to London, the train journey plus overnight ferry, not bad. Will watch with interest.
