The travel industry is bracing itself for a move by easyJet that may see it become the third player in a new “big three” of tour operators, behind Thomas Cook & Tui.
The no-frills airline is believed to be gearing up for a massive expansion in promoting accommodation options that can be booked with flights through its website. Action is expected within months, and if it happens it will present a huge challenge to existing big players, smaller independent operators and agents.
EasyJet already has competitive rates with flying, accommodation-only, and transfers and, if it goes ahead, will introduce a serious alternative to the big two.

While the industry is complaining about Thomas Cook & Tui, it appear that easyJet may be forging ahead with its plans to expand its package holiday operation. It is reported to be looking for a partner and Low Cost Travel Group has emerged as the frontrunner. Nothing has yet been confirmed.
