Hi everyone
What is the best way to get euros for my holiday in Roda? I have been following the exchange rate and it is hovering about 1.14 at the moment in UK, but then I keep reading the exchange rate at Dromeas and everybody saying it is always better in Roda. If I don't buy my euros before I go, should I take sterling travellers cheques or just take the cash with me, though I would be nervous about taking a large sum of money! If I do opt for the (sterling) Travellers cheques, would I pay more commission to cash these rather than exchanging cash? Any help, would be much appreciated!
Many thanks
Ann

Hi citygirl, John and I always took a mixture of Euros and travellers cheques. Last year with the banking crisis. we discovered that Greek banks are now charging to change the cheques on top of the charge you are given to buy them. We used American Express and changed them at American Express agents. Does your accomodation have a safe?. There are always the ATM's in Roda and Acharavi to use. We have found the safe or the safety deposit boxes where we have stayed very very safe.

We just take enough cash to last the first day or two and then use the ATMs in Roda.

The rate in Roda today is 1.16 euros to 1 GBP. Cash will get you the best overall conversion unless you use a Nationwide Flexaccount when you will get 1.177.

We wouldnt be without our Nationwide Flexaccount - much better rate (with no charges) and you dont have to carry loads of cash/travellers chqs with you - simply withdraw cash at machines as and when you require - just like at home!
regards, Kath.

Thanks for all the replies Think I will take some euros to cover the first couple of days and then take cash and hire a safe at the Pegasus Hotel. Only 26 days to go now....can't wait. In the meantime I will look forward to seeing any new photos that are uploaded and carry on enjoying the posts! Thanks once again!

We take a bit cash. The rest we use our debit card at the ATM in either Roda or Acharavi. For every hundred pound we take out we are charged £2 by our bank(HSBC). Plus you get very close to the bank rate.
