Hello Everyone,
Be gentle with me as its my first post. We were contemplating a break over the Easter period, say April 2nd for a week, but wondered what if anything would be open in Roda? We can definitely get the flights and presumably could find accommodation but would there be enough open to keep us occupied for a week? I am thinking along the lines of bars and restaurants and would there be any pools open or does everyone use April to get ready for the start of the season in May? We have been to Roda lots of time in high season but never as early as April. We would be a party of seven, including 2 children aged 7 and 10 respectively and whilst the adults might be happy with a few bars and places to eat, without the lure of the pool the kids could easily be bored, although there is the beach and the sea of course.
Anyway, your views and advice would be most appreciated.

Hi welcome to the site, There are a few bars open that have been open all winter including Nemo's, Oscars, Island Tropicana all serving drinks throughout the day and night. We are open at Pirates everyday from 9am serving breakfast and a full menu and have a full bar service all the football and sports events throughout the day and night. There are is also Drosia open all day and night seving food and Pixida and Estrella are open every wednesday through to sunday on the evenings for food. I also have been told Opa is opening up this weekend. Not too sure on the pool situation though. If you were to come over at easter it is the perfect time to see the real Corfu, easter here is celebrated as much as you would celebrate christmas in the UK, and there will be lots of traditional acctivities going on throughout the week including the famous pot throwing in Corfu town and the prossesion of the Virgins!!! on big Friday. Rounded off with Saturday at the church with a service and fireworks at midnight. Not forgetting easter Sunday where we all roast lambs outside on the spit. You will find Roda a very different place from what you see in the summer with many of the places closed but I am sure you and your family would enjoy the easter here there are many things to see and do. My family are also arriving on the 2nd of April and they are staying with Pipitsa so I know tht she has accomodation for this time if you need help with that. If you have a look at www.piratescorfu.com you will find pictures of last years easter celebrations in the village. Hope this helps. Stacy Pirates bar.

Sorry just to add last year there was a boat trip organised from Kassiopi to take people to the pot throwing on the saturday in Corfu Town. This would be a nice trip for your family as long as your arrival on the Fridy night was not too late.

Thanks Stacy - the boat trip with Cosmic has been a great success, but you do need to book tickets in advance. We will try to find out if Mike & Vera are running it this year.
Theodoros is usually open for Easter and they have been working hard there for a few weeks now. The pool will be working and it's a lovely setting, but it's better to think of enjoying the tranquility of sitting by the pool in the sun rather than taking the plunge. Both Pipitsa & Theodoros can be contacted through this website. Others to consider are Nino's on the Beach and Metallinos.
Don't forget that many Greeks from the mainland will be visiting family in Corfu and everyone is out and about and in festive spirit. It really is very special. You will also find that, now easyJet are flying in April, many families of ex-pats choose to spend time here at Easter and some of the people who are only here for the summer will be returning too.
Any further information, please ask
Steve

I did Kaz but I never thought of checking the calender (thick or what)
Having a bad day and was just wondering where the nearest airport would be to fly from direct to Corfu in April

Thanks for the information Stacy, it sounds like there might be a bit more to do than we thought. I might try the Theodoros to see if they can provide any accommodation for the week and if the pool might be available. If we do make it you can bet we will be calling in for the breakfast!

Thanks kaz - yes, Easter is early this year and there is a definite flurry of activity in the village as people get ready. It seems that most businesses try to do all their preparation in Lent, enjoy a break at Easter, and finish off the smaller details just before the season starts. All the pools need to be attended to at the last minute as they are expensive to maintain and to run and, as we have said before, the start of the season is not as clear as it used to be. You will see that Stacy will open 'Acropolis' on April 1st as there will be visitors throughout Easter, followed closely by the opening of Roda Beach which brings the people who love to walk and enjoy the sunshine and the flowers. By last night, many of the tables and chairs had appeared in OPA restaurant and it looks as though Yiannis will be the first to open. The choice of places open may be less, but this is a wonderful time in Roda and an experience that dedicated 'Rodaphiles' should not miss.

Just read an article about tourism : Easter trips are very popular in Holland ,and Greece is no.5 on the list of the most popular holiday-destinations now (last year it was no.10): 1. Spain (1)
2. Italy (3) 3. Turkey (5) 4. Gr.Britain (2) 5. Greece (10)
