Thank you Eileen for bringing this to the notice of the forum. We have been using Palmair, and to Corfu since 2000. They have been flying to Corfu since 1974. HISTORY OF PALMAIR. They fly package deals to the resorts of Kontokali, Gouvia, Dassia, Nissaki, Barbati and Paleokastritsa. They also do a Flight Only deal. I am the first to admit their prices look more expensive than most, but I have also flown from Gatwick, and when one adds the cost of getting their, or driving ones self, and parking, there is not a lot of difference. In our case, Bournemouth Airport is only 1.5 miles form home, and we see the aircraft taking off and approaching to the north of our home.
An example of typical costs, say for August staying at the Spifti Prifti in Gouvia is around £600 per person. This includes all meals, taxes, 20kg baggage, all transfers and a very good in resort rep. Flight only for the same period is around £340 return per person.

Latest on Palmair:
'Bath Travel has dismissed rumours it will axe its Palmair airline venture. But managing director Stephen Bath admitted it will reduce its winter 2010-11 flying programme from Bournemouth, due to competition from budget airlines. He said Palmair’s only Boeing 737 remained on lease until April 2012 and that he hoped to offer it for charter work. But he added that Palmair would operate a full summer 2011 programme.'
Anyone care to speculate?

Certainly not heard anything from this neck of the woods. I do follow the news of Bath Travel and Palmair very closely as I use them quite a lot.
Palmair have recently taken on a new aircraft, and ex BA 737-500 series in association with Astraeus Airlines. Palmair have never run a winter service to Corfu, and flights begin in May, and finish at the end of October. They may, although have not heard anything from either their sites, or via newsletters, be reducing their winter flights to such places as Madeira and Majorca, as from April this year, Thomsonfly/First Choice and Easyjet fly out of Bournemouth to these destinations. The same companies will also be flying to Corfu in the summer months, but on a different day to Palmair, and different resorts and accomodatio via First choice.
I will certainly look into it further, and let the forum know.

Heard today that Thomas Cook will by flying to Corfu from Bournemouth commencing next year, May 2011. This will be 3 flights a week from the South Coast Airport, and not too soon. Bournemouth is now on the up alround with its new Departure Lounge, and recent approval for the go ahead commencing August of the new Arrivals Lounge. We are now hoping that Palmair, dropping some of its Winter routes, might opt for a Winter route to Corfu. I know myself and other locals have written to Palmair on this subject.

Hi Lukert. I think I can make out your abbreviations. As I have said, it can be more expensive to fly from Bournemouth, but the cost is not the only factor is it. There is the two hour drive to Gatwick, either by Taxi or Self Drive. Even longer if one gets caught in an accident or held up by one, which we have in the latter. There is also the very early morning departures from home to get to Gatwick, to catch a breakfast time flight. The list can go on, and as I said disregarding the cost.
Advantages. Palmair 0900 or 1530 flight. Thomsonfly, evening late afternoon/evening flights. Thomas Cook no details as yet. Airport is only 15 minutes from our home, at a taxi cost of £5. On return, we are at home within the hour of arrival at Bournemouth.
Regarding costs, Palmair admit themselves they appear more expensive, but what you pay is what you get. There is no more add ons, whether you fly package or flight only. And the service is second to none. Why were they voted the Worlds Best Airline. Thomsonfly, and no doubt Thomas Cook, are and will be cheaper.
The Pros overide the Cons in all aspects of being better to fly from Bournemouth. No I am not promoting, I am stating a sound fact.

The Pros and Cons are as stated. Regardless of cost, I prefer to fly from Bournemouth if I can. It may as you put be more expensive than Easyjet, then what is'nt. The Pros are the fact of being closer to where I live, no long taxi rides or self drives. If you have a 6am flight which most are Gatwick to Corfu, then one has to be at the airport no later than 4am, which is a 2am start from home. Bournemouth, 9am flight, 7am at the airport, but not too much of a restriction, leave home at 6.45am. Thats with Palmair. The other airlines leave at late afternoon, so even better. Cost of a taxi from Bournemouth to Gatwick, £250 return, taxi to Bournemouth £5. Drive to Gatwick, £30 fuel, Parking £90. Why bother at Bournemouth.
That is the Pros and Cons. No one is denying that flying Easyjet is not cheaper, but it is more convenient from Bournemouth. Of course when Easyjet decide to fly from Bournemouth also, which they may add the route in future on their itinery, then all the better.
