I was sorry to see a couple of weeks ago, that the new footpath along the beach to the Golden Sands area, has suffered a marked deterioration since I was previously there in June.
I wonder if it will survive the winter?

Hi Big John, towards the end of our stay in September we had a couple of good storms and the waves were crashing all over the footpath then, as long as the main foundations last i suppose it won't take a lot of repairing - fingers crossed. pete.

Hi John
Clearly, some of the sand on the pathway has been washed away with the season's northerly winds, but not for the whole length. The problem has been exacerbated by children, both young & not so young, throwing the stones back into the sea - it seems to be a temptation they can't resist!
On a good note, you may have noticed that the half of the pathway furthest from Roda now has a small, but significant sand bar, built up presumably by the shifting seabed. In addition, the 'beach' further on is getting bigger and the corner near the village is also filling in because of the small concrete groyne jutting out into the sea. The one thing we can be sure of is we have no idea what will be there in 2009. Let's hope the build up of sand continues.

Yhe Path was a god send, not having to go throough the field and the horses, I do hope it is repaired before we arrive next year, Roda is a place that deserves it.

On the old forum we already talked about the path and how wonderful it was / is for tourism / people of Roda , because it is now easier for the people from the big Mitsis Roda Beach hotel to take a walk to the village . Me too , I hope it will be repaired by next season! Can anybody tell me why you call this "golden sands" area?

Hi Petra
We don't remember the 'Golden Sands' but evidently it was of Roda's most popular tavernas right on the beach between Roda Village and the Roda Beach Hotel. The sand there really is golden and the taverna was famous for its Greek nights. It was owned by the family who now run Smiley's Bar and everyone says how wonderful it was. I'm sure that other people can tell you more.

The Golden Sand, (not Sands)was possibly the best Taverna in Roda, in a fantastic location. When I went up there for lunch about 3/4 years ago and saw it closed, my heart sank. To see it in its current state is heartbreaking, and I always call in at the house and see Fiona for a while when passing.
I understand that family problems caused the closure, plus of course the changing of the Roda Beach villge hotel to all inclusive.
Still, as pointed out, Alex and Christina can now be found at Smileys, and their hospitality and expertise give their "new restaurant" a special edge.
