The village and particularly the community from Karousades have been rocked today by the death of one of the younger members.
Nikos Batounos (only in his mid twenties) was killed in a tragic car accident just outside of the fruit and vegetable shop, Farma along the main road in Roda in the early hours of this morning (Sunday).
Nikos opened what was to become the very popular Mezedomayeia on the main road at Karousades. A taverna which we had been pleased to promote ourselves. It is obviously too early to know what will happen with the business.
Our thoughts are certainly with his family, particularly his fiancee, to whom he was soon to be married. We also know he was looking forward to becoming a father within the next couple of weeks.
A truely sad day here.

So much taken and lost at such an early age. Elaine and I send our deepest sympathies to both family and his fiancee. RIP.

We've just found out that Nikos & Nafsika got married at a civil ceremony a couple of weeks ago. Niko's new venture in Karousades was very popular - it is so sad.

What awful news - it really brings home how fragile life is and should make all of us count our blessings daily. With deepest sympathy to all concerned. Kath.

We haven't learnt the actual reasons but as always, we suspect that speed was to blame Thank you for the messages that everyone is posting. I was at the post office in Karousades (shhh, don't tell Steve lol) and passed the meze restaurant - it was such a shame to see it all locked up. We still don't know what are the long term plans. How very sad. We only met Nikos for the first time last October when we visited his taverna. He was a really nice person with a lot of energy for his new venture. All our condolences to his family. R.I.P.

The sad news filtered through to me yesterday the 26Th,I was not sure if I was thinking of the correct Niko, but this thread has confirmed I was. We live in Karoudases for a few months of the year, the last time I visited Niko's Taverna was for lunch late October 2009. My condolences go out to his family and friends.Niko will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of dining at his restaurant . A very sad day for his loved ones and for the people of Karousades.
