As I'm typing this there is the most spectacular storm outside and we had to rush out to see what was happening. The dogs are all tucked up under cover and it is bouncing down, literally, with 15mm hailstones. Let's hope today's arrivals are safely inside a bar or restaurant for their first night.

Once, many years ago, we happened to be there during a 'spectactular' hail storm, they were like ice cubes.....unbelievable.....couldn't walk out in it or we would have definitely been injured (so we had to stay in the bar....shucks!!).
The metal shutters at the front of Makis' apartments have mega holes in them.....

My parents (davelinda) are in Roda at the minute and they said the hail was like golf balls!! A few weeks ago on the day they arrived they had really bad thunder and lightning, their villa was struck by lightning and had a hole blown in the roof!! Jackie

Thanks Jacks I will tell them you were asking after them. They texted today to say they couldn't get down to village to phone as weather too bad. They are hoping they get home ok on Monday as some incoming flights have been redirected to Athens. Bet they don't go in October again!!!

No two years are the same Jacks and, this October, I understand that all of mainland Europe has taken a bit of a battering. I think we probably caught the tail end of it at a bad time for end-of-season visitors. It's always a risk, but it's the worst we've seen since we have been here and what's the betting that it won't happen again for several years?

I was in Roda this time last year and we had lovely weather, still wearing shorts. Glad I didnt go this year!
Hope dave and linda are ok. I remember being in Kosmas appartments when a storm started and I chose to stay on the balcony to watch, lightning hit the road below me and I nearly went through the closed patio doors to get inside. Scarry never mind it hit your roof. hope everyone in roda is ok!!! lynda

Can anyone remember many years ago when "Smileys" was The Roda Star?? well we were in there one day when there was a bad storm, the wind must have been touching 80 MPH and we had (customers as well as Old Alkino) to push up against the glass doors & windows otherwise they were going to be blown in............now that was very frightening...Kaz

Hi everyone,Well Linda & I are safely back, after a most frightening 'holiday',the lightening struck our house on our first night back whilst we were watching a dvd.It was an almighty bang it blew our lights, television & our heating controls. It hit the corner of the house we could smell smoke we were covered in plaster from the ceiling & it was quite scary in the dark until I found our torch. On looking up to the ceiling water was coming down the walls so we quickly moved our furniture to the other end of the room & lit some candles.Luckily I had a bottle of Metaxa in & some red wine for Linda so we had a drink or 3 & decided to go to bed,we didn't sleep a wink everytime there was a thunder bang or lightening Linda hid under the blankets I wasn't far behind her I can tell you I have never been as frightened in my life but you have to put on a brave face.Next morning I went outside at daybreak & saw the roof had a hole 2meters square in it the chimney was cracked all the way down( to be continued).
