Hi there my boyfriend and I are going on holiday to Roda for the first time, and with the credit crunch we have heard a lot of rumours about VERY pricey food and drink abroad. Just wondering if anybody could give us a rough up-to-date guide on some of the prices on food and drink, particularly eating out because we are only bed and breakfast.
ALSO, as we won't have a fridge in our room, we were wondering how you go about with water? We have been told that you can buy frozen water bottles from the local shops but have you any better ideas?
Thanks a lot! Alice ;D

Just wondering if anybody could give us a rough up-to-date guide on some of the prices on food and drink, particularly eating out because we are only bed and breakfast. Hi Alice, welcome to the forum and thanks for your questions. When are you and your boyfriend coming out to Roda and where will you be staying? In answer to your question, I am sure that you will get lots of answers but here's the first to get everyone started. Firstly, the restaurant, taverna and bar owners in Roda are very conscious that money is tighter this year for their visitors and I know that the majority of them have NOT made any increases to their prices. There are even some that have reduced some prices or are offering a set menu (with a choice). The comments from people that we meet and from our members and guests here reflect that there is good value this year. Have a look at the following thread ESTRELLA RESTAURANT, this is one of Roda's newest restaurant and prices and food is excellent. There are other reviews in the RESTAURANT REVIEWS on the forum. My own aunt is here with a friend and they have been very pleased with the meals that they have eaten in the village. I know they ate out last night and had main courses, one of which was a fish dish, large salad, wine, soft drinks and a shared dessert for 21 euros (about £18 at today's exchange rate). (Also at the weekly FGT (forum get together informal meeting) yesterday we had a conversation about the excellent food that Roda has to offer at good prices. There are a whole range of restaurants offering meals and snacks in the village so you will have a large choice. If you did want an English breakfast, then you can expect to pay up to 4,50 - 4,70 euros for a generous breakfast which will keep you going all day! ALSO, as we won't have a fridge in our room, we were wondering how you go about with water? We have been told that you can buy frozen water bottles from the local shops but have you any better ideas? As for cold water, I do not know whether you can buy frozen bottles but I am sure other forum users will know and have good tips. Julie

Hi again Alice, we have just returned from two weeks in Roda, didn't notice any price increases form last year or the year before come to think about it, 2 good sized english breakfasts less than 10 euros, main course evening meal 7 to 10 euros, pint of mythos (lager) 2.5 euros, all in all it's a lot better value than at home. Hope this helps. pete.

Hi Alice, I will be out in Roda at the same time as you The prices are usually very reasonable for food and drink and I know that a few of my friends have told me they weren't increasing their prices this year. As for frozen water I have never seen it in any of the supermarkets over the last 9 years that I have been going to Roda. Would have been very helpful when we lived there as the water we kept in our fridge was never there long enough to get cold!! lol Look forward to seeing you around the village. Rachael

Okay thanks for your help, frozen bottles of water would have been a great help as we wont have a fridge in our room, but will just have to take a thermos flask instead! ;D
