When XL collapsed there were strong feelings about dealing with the company that emerged in their wake, Viking Airlines. With so many people abandoned, this was inevitable and it was quite natural that travellers should lose confidence in a company that had links to XL.
However, there is always another side to the story. With a high number of independent visitors, Roda would suffer if things were left to the two big operators, TUI & Thomas Cook. The MD of Sunvil Holidays has revealed that the 'big two' have been using the same policy with them as they do with Roda - saying it is full when it's not! TUI & Thomas Cook have been refusing them seat allocations and the same may apply to all other smaller tour operators. It is only the arrival of Viking Airlines that has allowed them to break the stranglehold of the big two and it demonstrates the dangers of the near monopoly situation in Europe's tourism industry. Yesterday, we reported that Thomas Cook's policy was to control the holiday markets in which it operates and this does not bode well for either its customers or its suppliers.
TUI & Thomas Cook, naturally, deny these claims and there is much talk about redeployment of spare aeroplanes and slack in the system. In the meantime, thousands of UK visitors, particularly from Scotland and the north of England, can't get flights to Corfu at any price. Just who is telling the truth?

See! THAT's why I was finding it hard to get a holiday to Roda.....! As I said b4, the flights were always there, if you wanted to book independantly, but as soon as you put Roda into the equation, with a package deal, it said there was no flight availability!
