It would appear that the transit area of Corfu's Kapodistrias airport has been extended by 500 sq.m to reduce the need for 'stacking' outbound passengers outside of the airport building. This means that the passengers from 2-3 extra aeroplanes can be accommodated inside.
Also installed, is a new check-in system which will speed up the flow of passengers to the departure lounge.
We have not personally witnessed either of these improvements as only the domestic end of the terminal is in use at present.

I understand also from the media that a new road system from the airport is being built for easier access around Corfu Town. Is this correct. With what you say, and this. Is this a sign that the Greek Tourist Board/GNTO expect better things. Hope so.

I've mentioned the new road a couple of times on the forum, Chris. They have started because I've seen the diggers.

Glad they are improving the departure area. My first trip I swore I would never go back if it meant I had to fly. Hubby said it was the same as 30 years previously. Have got used to it now but glad they are finally doing something. Bev

We were at the airport yesterday and we saw some of the improvements for ourselves. At check-in, the hand luggage scanners have been moved to the area directly below the restaurant. The biggest change that we could see, was the 500sq.m. enlargement of the departure hall. It would appear that the area near to gate 5 has been extended considerably, the toilets have been moved and lots of extra seating added. It is understood that there is now enough room to accommodate 2/3 more planeloads of passengers, thus reducing the need to hold people outside the airport building. Can anyone who has just returned from Corfu add anything to this?

i dont see a problem with corfu airport prefer it to gatwick any day a bonus that the greeks speak better english than most of the staff @ gatwick. Airport wise it not that bad lacks a fair bit to do waiting wise makes more depressing the fact we are returning home. But remember its only a may-oct aiport for international . ive seen it hectic a few years back in high season had to que outside etc and we all bunched in the lounge like sardines but still didnt bother me. I suppose we are all different and some people moan etc about small things.

We returned yesterday no real problems, they have taken away some of the seating in the check-in area but increased the seating in departures lounge.

Welcome home, Lynda. Could you not have brought the sun with you? We could be doing with some in Clydebank.

lol What are you talking about? The sun's out (I'm in the East End of Glasgow), but we have big black clouds to compliment it! I wish it was so easy to bring the sun home with you. That'd be good, wouldn't it? Then again, would that mean there'd be no sun when I go? lol
