Heres the the reply i got Thank you for your email On looking at your booking you have not paid any fuel charges. When a booking is made an overall cost is agreed to and if there were to be any reductions to our customers then we would contact you direct. However at this point there are no discounts or reductions for your booking. As we purchase fuel and such so far in advance these are obviously incorporated into our prices. First Choice Support So i wrote this back ........... Good morning, Thank for your reply,in my e-mail I did not mention anything about fuel charges,I asked if.... are you where aware that the Greek Government are scrapping Airport Charges at Corfu Airport from April to September and they reckon that it will save between 10 and 12 Euros per passenger and will the saving be passed on to me and other passengers. And another quick response back ;D Thank you for your email. Further to your enquiry; as per our booking terms and conditions we state that if the tax is reduced by more than 2% we would retain this, as we would protect customers if tax is increased by more than 2%, as we would absorb this cost. Due to this statement you will not receive any monies back due to the tax cancellation. Kind regards First Choice Customer Support I think i'll sent them the Sun.day Times Artical. b****y tightwads.

Invariably these are the only replies you are going to get via email, quotes from Terms and Conditions. That is all they know. I have found out over the years that you have to go to the top, and in writing. You will get a response, because one or two things will normally happen. The boss himself will respond, or he will give the biggest rollicking to the person who should have done and make him respond.
Well we can live in hope. However, it does work sometimes. Email very rarely, because some one sits there just to answer emails.
Yeiamas, Chris

I sent them the artical today..... From The Sunday Times April 19, 2009 Greece postpones the start of summer holidays Bookings down 30%, ferries keep winter pricing - but airlines accused on not passing on savings Chris Haslam Attempts by the Greek government to revive its struggling tourist trade by suspending landing charges are being thwarted by the refusal of greedy charter carriers to pass on the savings to passengers, according to a tour operator that specialises in the country. The Greek ministries of transport and tourism have scrapped landing, takeoff and stopover fees at Greece’s regional airports until September — which should save the average family about £40 — but Noel Josephides, of Sunvil, says airlines are keeping the money. “What annoys tour operators is that we can’t pass these savings on to our clients because the airlines are keeping the money,” he said. “We’ve had no notification from any of the charter carriers, such as Monarch, Thomson Airways and Thomas Cook Airlines, that they intend doing otherwise.” We asked the carriers concerned to respond, but at the time of going to press neither Thomson nor Thomas Cook had replied. Monarch’s response was that it had not yet worked out how to return the cash. “Monarch’s preference would be that the Greeks pass this saving directly to the tour operators via a reduction in the passenger-related taxes,” it said. “However, if no other method can be established then Monarch will endeavour to find a mechanism to enable this saving to be passed on to the tour operators.” and with a little message that if i don't get no joy from you i will be writing to the HEAD HONCHO who must know whats going on in the travel industry Or as sthelenssaint suggests i might give the BBC a ring.

The sky's the limit, Steve - we need a champion to pursue this because we are all being taken advantage of. Anyone else care to join Steve in his crusade?

It was reported yesterday in TTG that the founder of Greek specialist Sunvil, Noel Josephides, has urged charter airlines to pass on savings after authorities in the country scrapped some taxes on flying. He said he had had no indication how the savings from the scraping of landing, take-off and stopover fees at regional airports would be passed on.
It would appear that it is not the tour operator that is failing to pass on the refund and Josephides said “What annoys tour operators is that we can’t pass on these savings because the airlines are keeping the money”.
Monarch Airlines said it was working on a mechanism to pass on the savings, but said it would have preferred the Greeks to have offered to pass on the savings directly to operators by cutting passenger-related tax.
Where does that leave TUI who own both the tour company and the airline?

Somebody, writing to Athens News last week, reckons that the 12 euros per ticket is designed to bring 667,000 more visitors to Greece this year. Steve

I have just opened an e-mail from Jon Hunt - assistant producer on "watchdog" asking me to phone him - just tried and he is out of the office for the day - will try again on monday morning. If it doesn't get us a refund it might just show the airlines up for what they are. pete.

Keep on the case Pete - this is exactly what we need. Like the rest of Europe, Greece is not in any financial position to offer ineffective incentives only to have them skimmed off by airlines or tour operators. This measure is intended to be passed on to consumers and to increase visitor numbers by 667,000.
