I had the misfortune to visit Turkey about 15 years ago, and would never go back. Despite the fact that where we went was a beautiful place, (Olu Deniz) we were hounded constantly by touts ( some English), and locals, who would not take no for an answer. We came back feeling that we had not been able to relax. None of those problems in Roda!
Regarding Roda's seemingly low profile in respect of the major tour operators, I note that on the transfer list from the airport (Thomsonfly) Roda is conspicuous by it's absence, whilst Kassiopi, Acharavi, and Sidari, are all drop off points!
Just twelve weeks to go, before I can get back to my favourite place.

Have never fancied Turkey.......my cousin and his wife love it. They bought an apartment about 5 years ago as a holiday home......but last December decided to up sticks and go and live there. They are in Alanya.
I had an email from them this morning, as follows......(Today is the first day it hasn't rained in weeks so much so the new dam, which is not in use yet and has no turbine is in danger of bursting. People have been evacuated and its still filling up. People who have lived here for seven years are saying they have never known it to be this bad. Till we came)........I couldn't help but smile ;D ;D ;D.....how wicked am I?
No, it really doesn't appeal to me, but never say never

it was probably your letter asking for information that did it. He obviously asked his fellow board members an embarrassing question like "can you explain"

I think the resignation of Steven Freudmann from ABTA was something far more involved. I still hope to get a reply, but it won't be from him.

A friend in Roda made a very good point about Turkey & Egypt. Admittedly, there is a lot to see in both countries and, as the option to travel freely does not exist in either, organised tours are the order of the day. This is exactly the environment that all-inclusive and other package tour operators need to exploit our pockets. A good case can be made to visit these countries but, if this is your intention, then do so with open eyes. Go there with the purpose, and the funds, for seeing as many sites as you can, be prepared for early starts and long days and expect to be thoroughly exhausted at the end of your stay. If you are going for relaxation, then both locations are hot, so hot that you will probably need to stay in the shade and may actually return home paler than when you left. The message is, do not expect to spend lazy days in sleepy villages to recharge your batteries - you may go back more in need of a holiday than when you left.

There is lots of publicity over here about a possible military coup in Turkey and a government crackdown on Kurdish military group PKK. These are the people responsible for bombs in tourist resorts and other general unrest. Is any of this filtering through to northern Europe and, if so, is it affecting tourist confidence yet?

I went once - my mate was a holiday rep (she's actually a really nice person! ) & decided to get a cheap flight out (got it for £99 & she got me a room in one of her hotels), so that I could see her. Didn't enjoy the holiday one bit - It was great seeing her & all, but I didn't like the place much or the people. And all the guys think that British girls are only there for one reason (I note that some of that actually are, but not us all). I ended up telling one guy that I was "with" Karen, just to get him off my back - he was a worker in her hotel. I dread to think what he told all the other staff! lol And one guy, who Karen knew well (her, her mum & granny have been going for years) said that British women only go for one reason & we were like, "not ALL women. What about her mum & granny?" To which he replied, "YES! ALL women!" We had visions of her 80 year old granny chasing men down the road! lol Anyway.....I would NEVER go back!
