Roda's beach seems to have grown. I've just had a walk along the beach to Golden Sand and there is no doubt that we've got more sand. The sea is very low at the moment, but not as low as it was last year when Michaelis could walk out to his boat. The barrier across the new path to Golden Sand is today, 8 metres from the sea and I was able to walk on soft sand all the way to the point on the sea side of the pathway.
When I returned, I noticed that 10 metres in front of the blue boat outside the Afroditi, someone had unearthed a small section an old wall buried in the beach. That is 10 metres towards the sea! It is almost one metre thick and it is either an old sea defence or the remains of a building. There's a storm picking up now, but before the spring tides come and rearrange things again, I'll try to get a photo.

The newly revealed section of wall in the middle of Roda's beach was unearthed by Yiannis from Roda Taxis. Archeaological experts have been informed and will be visiting the discovery. We'll post a photo or two later.
Yiannis was also seen today, taking advantage of the low tides to build shallow stone groynes out into the sea from the last year's new pathway. This can only help to stabilise the sand along the pathway and may well encourage sand to deposit in greater quantities.

Don't get too excited, Jackie, it's only a few stones and not too photogenic at that! It is significant, though and we were told by Roy, who has been coming here forever, that he was snorkling out in the bay many years ago when he found a wall way out in the bay that he was able to stand on. Clearly the seafront was much further out at one time.

Keep us informed Steve, that's my stretch of beach - hate the thought of having to walk a few extra yards for a cooling dip ! pete.

I'd forgotten that's where you like to settle, Pete - you haven't started to build a house without anyone knowing have you? I wondered why you always had a bucket & spade. Steve

I doubt it jacks, Pete's problems will start when he tries to get electricity - isn't that right, Dave? In Corfu, DEH, the electricity board, have the last say in all building work. They make the final approval and report back to the council and the taxman when they make the connection permanent - or not! Perhaps that is why the wall was buried all those years ago - maybe Apollo never got permission from DEH! ;D
