Wherever you walk around Roda, you will nearly always be able to see the distant hill-side village visible in this photo behind the Aphroditi Hotel. Who knows which village it is and what its name means? We do have a very similar English word with a related meaning.

Not being a regular of Roda, I am going to have a go anyway. I am going to go for the village of Nymfes, which is where according to legend the Nymphs would bath in the clear waters. I think this is the English word that is referred to.
Oh well, it was worth a try.
Regards. Chris

Sorry Chris - sound reasoning, but it's higher up the hillside than Nymfes and that is part of the explanation Steve

What about Petalia , petalo is greek for horseshoe but also flowerleaf, so is petal in english . Not sure , because Petalia is almost on top of Pantokrator mountain. (I had to look up all of these words of course... .. )

Steve, I think you are getting a bit mixed up.......
Ian and myself have given answers to the photo of the 'village'......not 'Roda Rugby'

Jean, Ian, forgive me, I was only thinking of the riddle - I thought things had gone quiet on the 'village'! Having apologised profusely, do you really think that Sfakera & Platonas are that high up the mountain? I said that Nymfes was not high enough - where is your house, Ian? ... and anyway - what explanation can you give about the village name? Steve
