I will be putting some of Steve's collection of old Roda photographs. I am starting with a very well known Roda building looking a little different now.

This is a photo of an early postcard of Roda. My friend and I had fun trying to see the difference between then and now. My apartment block wasn't built then, and one of Elizabeth's blocks was just a concrete skeleton.
Have fun all you long term visitors.

This is another postcard of an early Roda from the opposite direction of the previous one. A lot of changes.

There is no information on the back of this photo, I have been given a couple of possible names. One is that it is Kostas from Roda Park with hair and the photo taken in the restaurant, the other is that is the brother of Captain Vangelis also taken in Roda Park. Perhaps you can confirm for me.

I have had only one other suggestion apart from, the brother of Sotiris Vangelis; and that is a Kostas the brother of Michaelis whose mum was Maria. All very general but more help would be good.

Some of the readers who have been coming to Roda for many years might recognise this building which is no longer there. I have been told where it was but was hoping this could be confirmed.

That, I think, is what was called the French house. It was on the left as you were approachibg Golden Sands along the beach, and there was a derelict cottage next to it which had been set on fire at one time by students. The French house originally was partially renovated but there was a problem when the owner died without completing. The law in France states that all heirs must be found before the property is sold and the building was left derelict for years because of disputes within the family. I believe Adoni, Alex's father, finally demolished both buildings as they were dangerous.

I was told that , and that the se had caused a lot of damage making it even more unsafe so that Alex and his dad completed the job. I think the square of bricks that can be seen in the sand near the Golden sand must be all that remains of that building. It was even suggested to me that at one time it had been an olive press.

I don't know about it being an olive press Jan, although I've known that building since the late 70's. The small cottage which was next to it was slowly going into the sea - every year there was more of the garden at the front missing. We always wondered what on earth posessed the French family to buy in the first place, it was obviously not going to last for years, much much too close to the water which has been coming closer in every year. It wouldn't be allowed so near the water these days. but when it was originally built it must have been well back on the land. I always wondered as well who the small cottage had belonged to, it was obviously somebody's home at one time.

It was a Corfu old timer who told me, but quite easily confused with language difficulties!

Here is another blast from the past. A once well loved holiday complex, now I believe some of the apartments are let for long term rentals.

I was sorting through all the business cards that Steve had collected and found a few interesting ones. So here is the first one to hopefully bring memories back.

Found this disc as I was clearing the lounge. I have a feeling he used to sing around the village. Does it bring back any memories?
