The fields are still ablaze with colour from so many plants. Yesterday I saw my first wild gladioli of the season. Steve used to call them Byzantine lilies.

I enjoyed my dinner last night sitting on my balcony as there didn't seem to be many mozzies about. I was taking in all my clutter but had left my plate behind. When I remembered to go out an get it, I had a late arrival guest! I just had to grab the camera. He had certainly made himself company. I left the plate out until dark, by which time he had gone and the plate could get a thorough wash.

Whilst not Corfu wildlife, but so much a part of our island. Two cats spotted under a table at Pirates yesterday lunch time.

I had to take a photo of Spiros Banos' wife's garden next to his shop. As always her gardens are so neat and tidy with beautiful flowers. This year we now have a small standing of flamingos.

A pair of terrapins by the carpark bridge. I only saw the small one as I was cropping the photo! The large one was about the size of a breakfast plate. There are so many around this year.

The yuccas are in flower at the moment. Usually they are high up and you can't see their beauty. But this yucca in the garden was in flower low down. A beautiful sight.

I was brought to a halt as I walked up the lane from the Dolphin. It isn't everyday that you see a large squash growing on top of a wall.It was coming from an adventurous vine from Niki's garden the otherside of the wall. She told Floyd to show me her squash plants in her tiny garden by their apartments. some of them were well big.

Steve's narcissi blooming on the balcony and a pot of osteospurnum outside the Dolphin enjoying the warm sunshine.
There never seems to be a time when we don't have something in bloom here on the island. At the moment we have almond, and mimosa blossom, wild irises and fields full of wild narcissus, joining the daisies, marigolds and pretty pink campion type flowers.Soon we will have the Judas trees and the wisteria.

Literally over the last couple of days there has been an explosion of flowers. I took these pictures of the daisy on Road 2. There were not there three days ago. It looks like it has snowed daisies! The field along the path from Elizabeth towards Nino's behind the Ammos grill room is a mass of clumps of these tiny wild narcissus. I noticed that the asphoedel had sprouted almost a foot in only a few days as well. Spring is here.

No pictures, but I heard the first pair of Scops owls on my walk home from the village last night. They had been reported to have been heard for several days around the island, but it was the first time for me this year. Spring is definitly sprung with the frogs courting and the sparrows checking out old nesting sites, and more wild flowers appearing daily.

A field covered with narcissus close to my apartment, so sweet scented when you walk passed.

There has been some unusual news about local wildlife recently.
Two beaked whales have been washed ashore on the west coast and succesfully refloated. The explosions on the Euroferry are being blamed together with seismic testing in the local seas. Also a 9m tuna was caught in the local waters and is being sent to the European markets. To me such a shame as tuna that size are incredably rare in the Mediterraenean sea.

According to the local paper the seismic testing has been stopped in the seas around use and the research vessel sent away. Something the Greenpeace vessel that has been off our coast has been demanding.

The spring flowers are stunning at the moment, just a couple of pics of a field full of anaemones, another full of daisies, buttercups etc.
