There were 6 positive cases of covid reported for Corfu yesterday. Whilst the numbers remain small and a tiny percentage of those on the island we must stick to the official government guide lines regarding the use of masks, social distancing and just generally being sensible. I am preying that this current wave across Europe dies down as my route home now involves compulsory quarantine for 14 days once I arrive home!

I am preying that this current wave across Europe dies down as my route home now involves compulsory quarantine for 14 days once I arrive home! Actually that should have read 9, I am slightly dyslexic with certain numbers and letters. I keep hearing rumours that Greece is going to join the list of countries from which you have to quarantine yourself on return, but there has been no official notifications, just re-iterations about sticking to the existing rules. We will keep you informed as and when we hear anything official.

At the moment the UK will use quarantine if number of cases reaches 20 per 100,000. Greece is currently at 13.54 cases so being monitored. The number of new cases showed a drop yesterday; lets hope its no a blip but a sign that the new measures and requests for stay safe, use masks, social distance are beginning to listened too.

We’re out in Roda (hopefully) next Saturday and I have filled in and edited the plf form twice . First I just put my husband on as travelling companion but then was told everyone I was travelling with had to be on the same form even though we live 50 miles away and now I’m told that EasyJet were requiring one qr code for each person and not per group 🙈 Hopefully it’s just an EasyJet thing and as we are travelling with Jet2 the one will suffice especially as I had to state I would only fill out one per family before I could begin . If that’s all that the Greek government require them surely that’s okay ? So confusing 🙈

Not sure of the rules re the PLF.......except that it is required by the Governments not the airlines although to help matters along the airlines have been told not to let people travel without showing their Qr code. Maybe the one per person is to do with social distancing at the check in.
Meantime total cases in Greece now exceed 8000 (at 8138) with 238 deaths. Over the last week new cases in Corfu have been just 1 or 2 per day. I was in Corfu Town yesterday and although bus there was busy Town itself was much quieter than normal. Despite restrictions on numbers I was still in the bank, seen and my needs dealt with and out within 15 minutes. Plenty people wearing masks all the time but you only need to when entering a shop, offices, banks or churches as well as in museums and of course if using buses, ferries or taxis.

Record cases this week in Greece and over 5,000 in August which is over 50% of total. Also over 50 deaths this month. They are extending existing rules re tests before come until 19 September for the Countries already advised....they may add Holland to it. They are concerned re Lesbos, Attica and Thessolonika areas where majority new cases are and may extend closures and use of masks there. Corfu cases remain low usually 1 or 2 a day. Police are out and about as BED bar in Sidari fined and closed for breaking midnight closure rules. There was no reference to UK in yesterdays briefing reports.

Due to a problem with people returning to UK from Zante with signs of the virus(mainly to Wales) there have been some changes within the UK. Scotland are now insisting all returnees from Greece self-isolate for 14 days on return. Wales are also doing the same but only for returnees who have holidayed at Laganes on Zante.
The cases in Greece are still around 200 a day and now total 10,757 with 273 deaths. There have been now new cases on Corfu in the last few days.

Cases and deaths have been on the rise in Greece over the last 10 days. New mini lockdown rules apply to Attika area (around Athens where over 50% of the daily figures are). There have been just 3 cases on Corfu during that time which is very encouraging for us here. everyone is now observing the midnight closing and adjusting accordingly; I am noticing less locals ignoring the mask regulations in the shops as well. Lets hope this continues.

There have been no new cases on Corfu since the 26th September which is very encouraging. I think we can see out the tourist season safely here then maybe lockdown and only let residents come onto Corfu.......worry is families return from Athens area (where number of cases is worrying) to stay over Christmas and New Year. Tourist wise there are several places already closing as they had few bookings for October that is was not financially beneficial to them to stay open.

There is still large number of cases daily in Greece, mainly (over 50%) in Attika and Athens areas. There people are ignoring the local rules and still meeting up unmasked in large numbers in the Town Squares and parks. Despite this and fines it seems to be getting worse.....the Government are tryint their very best to avoid a full lockdown and all that involves at this time and have publicly said so......sadly it just seems to encourage those who believe they are immune.
Total cases in Greece is now 19842 with 409 deaths.

There has been a local case in Roda involving a Scottish tourist. He is friends of the family who own Paniotis mini market. The shop was shut as a precaution; I understand all the family tested negative but a 2nd test 5 days after the first is awaited. If that too is negative the shop can reopen. It all seems to be well under control and not causing any stir locally but it is a warning to take care; and wear masks in shops etc as well as to keep social distancing.

Covid reached record levels in Greece with 508 new cases in 24hours to yesterday. Also 8 more deaths. The totals are now 24458 cases and 490 deaths. It seems small compared to say France with over 30,000 cases in last 24 hours alone but it is still a major cause for concern. There are 14 day local lockdowns in a few areas of Greece now including Ionninna and everyone is being told to wear masks now if out in more crowded areas. Mind you photos from Athens show buses and trams packed even if they are all wearing masks. If the situation continues there will be more lockdown measures announced.
