Good afternoon from Roda. What a difference this morning, gone were the blue skies and sunshine to be replaced by wall-to-wall clouds, the mainland missing in the haze and clouds and the clouds descending down our mountain sides. The drizzle started around mid-morning when it had been forecast to start during the night. The sea was still calm but getting a slight ruffle on it from the quickening breeze. The only positive thing that could be said about the morning is that is mild.
Yesterday was just a perfect sunny day, glorious and warm when basking in the sun’s rays. The breeze stayed gentle and the sea calm. The few wispy clouds that had been present in the morning multiplied during the afternoon, but never obscuring the sun until quite late on. There was a pretty sunset of alternating rays of grey and peach fanning out from the western sky. There followed a starlit night with the lights from the mainland joining in. It did however, feel a bit chilly and the temperature at the end of the evening was a cool 9°C.
The temperature at 10.00am on Friday 14th. February was 14.1°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 16.1°C and the minimum was 7.3°C.

Good morning from Roda. We opened the curtains to a wonderful sight, cloudless blue skies, gorgeous sunshine and the marvellously clear views of the mainland with gleaming white snow topping the highest peaks. The deep sea is quite noisy this morning as we have some waves pounding the shoreline, and there is hardly a breeze to spoil the heat of that sun. We enjoyed breakfast on the balcony baking in the heat and lingered a while with our books.
Yesterday was a day best to be consigned to history. After a poor drizzly start with increasing winds it just proceeded to get worse with increasing periods of rain, some quite heavy at times. The evening saw very heavy periods of rain interspersed with spells of lighter rain. It was very windy with thunder and lightning around the middle of the evening. It was still raining by the end of the evening with a temperature around 11°C.
The temperature at 10.00am on Saturday 15th. February was 12.0°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 15.3°C and the minimum was 8.7°C.

Good afternoon from Roda. We had another glorious morning here with mostly clear blue skies with a scattering of small clouds. Albania was so clear across the channel, and I could see that some of the recent snow had already melted. The sea was a little choppy with small white horses and noisy waves hitting the shore. There was a chilly breeze which chased me off the front balcony onto the much warmer back one for morning tea and toast before our weekly walk up to the Tropicana for coffee with friends.
Yesterday stayed lovely all day with only one or two clouds daring to turn up. They were all gone by sunset. It was so warm in the sun for our lunch that I put the thermometer on the table beside us. It reached the giddy heights of 40°C! Despite the fact that at the same time on the north balcony it barely reached 16°C. It was a standard monochrome sunset after flushing the mountains a rosy colour. The night was so clear with so many stars and so many lights from the mainland. But it was a chilly 9°C at midnight.
The temperature at 10.00am on Sunday 16th. February was 10.1°C.

Good morning from Roda. We have another beautiful start to the day with clear skies to the north and only a few clouds dotted around to the south. We did have breakfast on the balcony but there was a chilly breeze whistling around the balcony. There is enough haze to soften the details on the mainland and even of our mountains behind us. The sea is flat calm again.
Yesterday was lovely for almost all of day with just a tracery of clouds for the most part. The shade temperature was so much lower than the one in full sun. The late afternoon saw some thicker clouds materialise which masked the sun just as we were trying to enjoy an afternoon cup of tea with some Christmas cake. But just as quickly as they formed, they de-materialised just as quickly, leaving enough stragglers to give a lovely sunset. With the gathering clouds the breeze strengthened and then died away just as the clouds did. The night sky was again covered in stars but the haze hindered the lights from the mainland. By now the sea was flat calm with barely a ripple to break the surface.
There have only been 7 days when we have had some rain here in Roda during the day since 1st January
The temperature at 10.00am on Tuesday 18th. February was 12.4°C.

Good morning from Roda. I have an apology to make and I am putting it down to senility. I typed out Monday’s report put it in the forum and then forgot to press post. Didn’t notice until yesterday, when I couldn’t understand why I was seeing Sunday’s report not Monday’s and as I had deleted the report on my I couldn’t repost it, so stupid. Any way Sunday was sunny all day. Very hot in the sun, but cold in the shade. Lovely sunset and loads of stars. The day’s temperatures were 10am 10.1°C, maximum 15.4°C, minimum 4.9°C and 11pm 11.0°C.
Back to today, I was up to see a beautiful rosy dawn. But it was chilly so I went back to bed. What blue patches of sky we had have been replaced totally by thick cloud. Albania is just about there, lurking in the deep haze, and our mountains are affected as well but less so. There is a bit of a chill breeze and the sea is calm looking but noisier. It was just about warm enough on the balcony for our breakfast.
Yesterday was lovely all day with just a few clouds around to add interest. It was very warm again in the sun, but cold out of it. There was a bit of a chill breeze in the afternoon, but it died away complete with most of the clouds in time for the sunset. The sunset itself was a gentle wash of fiery orange in the western sky after turning everything pink. It was a cold but starlit night with only a few mainland lights joining in with no wind and a flat calm sea. It was a chilly 9°C at 11pm
The temperature at 10.00am on Wednesday 19th. February was 11.6°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 15.2°C and the minimum was 6.8°C.

Good morning from Roda. Oh! what a night it was, we had a thunder and lightning storm right over us at one point, the wind howled and it rained all night. In fact, it lashed down at one point, rattling noisily on the windows. Both the balconies had had a soaking, and considering they are on opposite sides of the house that is unusual to say the least. This morning we got up to a cloudy troubled sky with the mountains on the mainland lost deep with the cloud base, which is just skimming ours. The sea has developed big waves, and they are increasing as the morning goes on. The skies now, are starting to clear from the north and the sun is starting to shine, but the wind is pushing the dark clouds to the south towards Ipsos. We are due strong winds this afternoon, so they should get rid of any residual clouds. Today is ‘Fat Thursday’ (tsiknopempti) when the Greeks binge on meat before the start of lent and fasting begins. It’s the Greek equivalent of Mardi Gras. The BBQ’s will be going full belt tonight.
Yesterday ended up a mostly cloudy day with the mainland lost in the haze for the most part There were some breaks in the clouds in the late afternoon, enough to give a very pretty sunset of grey clouds contrasting with the pink and orange colours produced by the setting sun. There was a bit of a breeze and the sea was building throughout the day. The mainland reappeared during the evening to give us some lights, but there weren’t enough gaps in the clouds overhead to allow any more than one or two stars to shine. It felt chilly even though the late evening temperature was a mild 12°C.
The temperature at 10.00am on Thursday 20th. February was 11.3°C.

Good morning from Roda. We had clear blue skies this morning without any trace of a cloud. The haze had gone and we were presented with a view of the mainland mountains with their top covered in fresh gleaming white snow, from end to end. It was magnificent. Add to that the effect of a deep blue sea in front on them, with white topped waves coming ashore. It was lovely. There is always a down side at this time of year, in that it was very cold and there was a bit of a breeze to add to the chill. The temperature had dropped from 12°C. at midnight to 4°C at dawn! The temperature during the day seemed to hover around the 12-13°C all day. Fortunately, in full sun on the south facing balcony, sheltered from that breeze it was lovely and warm for our breakfast.
Yesterday was very windy at the start of the day, easing off as it wore on but never less than a strong breeze. We had clouds around, particularly to the south and west, but mostly clear overhead. The seas were wild all day sending wave after wave ashore, we could count five or six at a time waiting their turn to crash onto the shore. It stayed very cool in the shade, but if you got a sheltered spot in the sun it was lovely. The sunset was an amazing display of colour. With a line of deep grey clouds hanging above the horizon adding depth and contrast to the pinks and vibrant oranges of the sunset. It is true you do need clouds to have a truly great sunset. It was 12°C late into the evening but feeling much colder in the wind.
The temperature at 10.00am on Friday 21st. February was 8.6°C.

Good morning from Roda. The early morning clouds have been driven away by quite a stiff breeze leaving us with clear blue skies except for a pile caught up on the peaks on the mainland. The snow on the southern flanks has almost gone but there is still quite a bit gleaming in the sun on the higher peaks. The sea is a beautiful shade of blue flecked with numerous white horses and foam topped waves coming ashore. We managed breakfast on the balcony, very warm when the breeze dropped but just about bearable when it blew!
Yesterday was clear and sunny all day, marred only slightly by a bit of a cool breeze and the lower than expected temperatures with all that sun. The sea was noisy all day and could even be heard from Acharavi main street! One or two small streaks of clouds gathered towards Italy and the west to add just that little bit of interest to the sunset. When we left home for our walk into the village the bottom third of the sky was a single sheet of orange with all the buildings, trees etc. in dark silhouette against it, and Venus adding a focal point. Slightly to the west those clouds were grey against that orange sky over the headland by Roda Beach. It was a very pretty picture. The night sky itself was clear and laden with stars joined by all the lights around the bay. The sea was a bit calmer, but the waves were coming ashore in bunches of fives and sixes. It should have been a mild 11°C at 11pm but felt chilly.

Good afternoon from Roda. It is such a lovely day here with plenty of sunshine, and it has been like that from the start. There are some thin high clouds that do get in the way of the sun from time to time, and to be truthful it is a relief. Not a thing you would expect to be saying in February. Breakfast and lunch both taken on the balcony and we were wishing for the parasol in the afternoon. There is enough of a breeze to stir the washing that I had out drying. The sea is a lovely shade of blue with just enough movement to look like watered silk, but we do have waves coming ashore. There is little in the way of haze, so we can see the snow-capped mainland across the channel.
Yesterday stayed sunny all day. A few clouds did wander across the sky at one point but they were given short shrift and went on their way. The breeze eased a bit as the day progressed as was the sea, but we were still seeing rows of waves waiting to come ashore. By the time we got to sunset we were cloudless and it was another beauty. The sky was a picture of shaded orange through pale blue, with Venus already high in the sky. I hope you don’t get tired of the photos I put on. The night sky was full of stars, and there seem to be even more lights than ever on the mainland. The temperature dropped quite quickly though and it was a chilly 7°C at 11pm. Last night’s sunset, and it hasn’t done it justice. The colours were more intense.
The temperature at 10.00am on Sunday 23rd. February was 10.7°C.

Good afternoon from Roda. It is another glorious day here. We have had clear skies from the word go, with just a gentle breeze to tickle the leaves and a calm sea with whispering waves coming ashore. It was more than warm enough for breakfast on the balcony. Don’t let those low shade value fool you, in the sun it is hot. Our neighbour was sunbathing on the back lawn in her bikini. There is a general haze, but we can still see Albania and the mainland. There are still gleaming snows on the highest peaks but most of the recent falls have melted.
The photos were taken yesterday and today. The white flag iris was on the side on the road near Theodoros resort, and the almond blossom was in the Lemon Garden in Acharavi.
Yesterday was clear and sunny all day, but with a definite chill in the air at times. The afternoon saw the morning high cloud spread and mask the sun. When the sun was out it was very hot but, in the shade or under that cloud it was chilly. The day progressed into evening via the usual sunset as the clouds cleared. We were left with plenty of stars and a calming sea and a gentle breeze. The mainland lights were being dimmed by a haze. It was a chilly evening with the late night temperature only 9°C.
The temperature at 10.00am on Monday 24th. February was 11.3°C.

Good morning from Roda. The amazing weather continues and we have had to put up the parasols on the balcony! We have blue skies slightly misted by thin high clouds to the north. There is a gentle breeze and the sea is calm. There is quite a bit of mist around veiling the mainland across the channel, which by-the-way is a pretty blue with one or two small fishing boats dotted around. Our backdrop is affected not only by the haze but by quite a bit of smoke from the wood burners and the bonfires.
Yesterday was a lovely day, glorious and hot in the sun, with just a gentle breeze and a lovely blue sea. In the sun it was too hot with the temperature touching 40°C. In the shade it barely reached 16°C! Some thin clouds gathered before sunset and we had such a pretty 360° spread of pink clouds before the sun sank in a blaze of orange. The clouds melted in the evening allowing quite a few stars to shine but the haze only allowed the larger village lights to be seen. It was a cool 10°C at 11pm. The night times have remained mild with no frosts.

Good morning from Roda. That lovely weather had to end sometime and today’s the day. We had a very mild night with the temperature only falling to 13°C, but it was blowing a gale by the time we woke up and we had almost 100% cloud cover. The sea is choppy without white horses and the mainland is just about lost in the haze. The wind cleared to clouds away for a time and we enjoyed a warm but rather breezy breakfast on the balcony. But that wind is bringing in the clouds again, some gathering on our mountain tops. I am hoping that the forecast is right and we don’t get any rain because with this wind the washing will soon dry.
Yesterday was the hottest day of the year so far peaking at 18°C, in the sun it felt much warmer, even the breeze was warm. The sky stayed cloudless until the late afternoon when we got a spread of thin high clouds. There were one or two thicker ones that managed to hide the sun even though they were tiny! There was another amazing sunset, and I have added a couple of photos to try and share them with you. The sea was like a mill pond and there wasn’t even a breath of wind in the mild evening. You cannot see it on the photos but there was the merest sliver of a silvery new moon which quickly set, leaving the sky awash with stars. It was a mild 14°C at the end of the evening.
The temperature at 10.00am on Wednesday 26th. February was 15.3°C.

Good morning from Sfakera; unfortunately I got Jan's message to cover too late for yesterday as I was online early before my shift at recycling.
So to catch up...…..Wednesday was a day when the clouds rolled in and through as there was a stiff wind, gusting up to F5. We did however get some sunny intervals and a short sharp shower just after midday. The sunny intervals got longer in the afternoon as the wind got stronger but it always felt much colder than the thermometer said due to wind chill. The evening was mainly cloudy with the odd star being visible in the gaps. The maximum temperature was 18.1c and the minimum was 9.4c.
Yesterday it was very windy still during the night and at 4am the wind gusted really strong for a few minutes bringing in a thunderstorm. It was a short sharp storm, the thunder was loud but it went as quickly as it came. The morning was windy, we had a few sunny intervals but the threatening clouds were always there; passing bye quickly. There were a few spots just after 11am and a longer shower in the early afternoon but it was mainly dry and very windy; again the wind chill was a major factor. After might fall we did have a clear sky for a while and the crescent moon was low in the western sky with many stars shining brightly; however by 9pm it was cloudy and we had another short shower. It stayed windyuntil the early hours. The maximum temperature was only 13.8c and the minimum was 11.5c.
This morning we woke to a light wind and almost full cloud...….I did see a glimpse of sun over Karousades but it soon vanished. The wind is picking up and the forecast is not very good......it shows snow during the day along the mainland at over 1100metres. We should miss that but get rains and the wind if forecast to be F7-8 today though it just gentle at present...…..time will tell but it looks like an indoors day.

Good morning from Sfakera; the sun is up and the sky is cloudless. There is a breeze but as its coming from the NE it has a chill; my fingers got rather cold just walking 400metres up into the village this morning! The sea still looks a little choppy with some whitetops in view. Albania had a good covering of fresh snow on its highest peaks during yesterday.
Yesterday was a grisslable day to say the least. Almost full cloud to start, mostly grey. There was a brief hint of sun and a light breeze which got stronger as the day progressed reaching a F7 at times. By 10am there was a light shower; this continued with just a few short breaks until just after 3:30pm. It was mainly light rain but constant; a few heavier moments. However after 2pm the wind really picked up and by 2:45 there was thunder and the rains got heavy. At around 3pm it was as it someone had opened a sluice; the heavens just came down as if a waterfall for 5 minutes. Visability was almost zero for those few minutes. I haven't seen rain as heavy as that brief moment in my life before!! As quick as it came it went and quickly after it began to brighten and by 4pm the winds had eased considerably as well. There were even a few short sunny intervals before 5pm when further cloud in the west covered the sun. Into the evening the clouds were still passing quickly as the wind was still gusting F4-5 at times but by 8pm we could see stars and the moon to the West, South West and South and slowly the whole panorama became one of a starlit sky. It was not until sometime in the early hours before the wind really dropped away to become a breeze.
The maximum temperature was 13.3c and the minimum was 8.4c

Good morning from Sfakera;it is Clean Monday today and the weather is perfect for kite flying as it is very windy.....therefore not too good for the picnic afterwards. Almost full cloud cover and very mild. Already 15c at 8:30am. The sea is choppy but as the wind from the SW not that many whitetops to be seen.
Saturday - the sun stayed out all day but there was a chill wind in the afternoon coming from snow capped Albania. It was ok outside if you were on the move; gardening or walking but if you stopped then the wind soon made you cold. After night fall we had a lovely starlit night. The maximum temperature was 14.4c and the minimum was 8.2c.
Yesterday was cloudless in the morning and felt really chilly in the still gusting winds. They did change direction and it became milder as a result; in the afternoon the winds dropped away for a few hours and it was rather pleasant in the sun sat outside Sandy's in Roda. In the evening the winds picked up again bringing in plenty of clouds and there fore the temperature didn't fall away as usual. Also the winds didn't ease but stayed gusting all through the night. The maximum temperature was 15.8c and the minimum was 7.1c
