Hi All, Seems part of the new departures building at the airport is now open! You will no longer have to carry your luggage to the x-ray machines as its all in line now when you check in. From the photos I've seen it looks great. Not before time I must say, last year was a nightmare! Happy holidays folks... 😎🍻🇬🇷

That's great news - I believe there are also new eating places (Starbucks for example) in Departures now as well. In addition I saw another post elsewhere that suggested the arrivals hall had been updated with more passport control booths and faster conveyor belts - unless I was dreaming it!

Yes arrivals has been updated as well. Sadly the thing noticeable at present is that too many planes are late arriving and departing (most within 30 minutes). If they cannot get them off on time when there are only about 10 international flights a day what will happen when there are 30? Hopefully they will get that small problem fixed in the coming weeks.

Very true - you can have 20 passport control booths and 4 baggage belts in arrivals but if they all arrive at the same time it’s going to be chaos - fingers crossed 🤞

Like Edinburgh, mapleoak, or Manchester perhaps ... no doubt Fraport is following a model that works for them in other places meaning that airports, like UK towns, will end up looking the same. If I go to the airport, I want to catch a flight, not have a 'shopping experience,' Maybe the modern thinking is that if you take aways the seats and make people browse in the shops, they'll be less critical of the time it takes to process passengers safely through the airport. At the end of the day, there is a minimum time needed to process both arrivals & departures, and this is unlikely to change in the long term. But Starbucks, really! Time to move islands I think ...!

Yes Steve, you're absolutely right about the shopping experience element and the "sameiness" - but they do need to make a profit after all. I recall Liverpool Airport when it was pretty much a shed and although it had character it lacked pretty much everything else as well - hence the fact that following a fair amount of investment you can now travel to many many foreign destinations - thankfully Corfu included! Although to reinforce your point there is a Starbucks at Liverpool Airport as well....
