Good morning from Roda. It started off beautiful this morning, blue skies, sunshine, no wind and a calm sea. It was very hazy with Albania barely visible across the flat calm sea and our hills almost as obscured. But as the morning has progressed we are seeing more and more cloud till the sky is all but covered. Checking the forecast this cloud is due to disappear during the day to give us clear skies in the afternoon. We managed breakfast on the balcony and our doors are wide open to get rid of the overnight condensation. It was still quite pleasant despite the 9°C reading for the shade temperature.
Yesterday was yet another gloriously boring sunny day. We had no clouds to spoil it, the wind stayed miniscule, and the sea stayed calm, although the little rollers were building in size by a small amount. The haze and the high humidity stayed with us all day, so the sunset was the standard band of deep orange, leading into a bright moon lit night. Only a few stars managed to be bright enough to penetrate the haze, the same for the lights of only the biggest and closest villages of Albania. We were grateful for the moon light again as the street lights were still out.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Tuesday 30th January 2018 was 7.9°C, real feel 8°C, and the humidity 77% giving a dew point of 4°C.
Sorry I have no more records of last year's temperatures.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 12.6°C (real feel 13°C), and the minimum was 4.2°C , the dew point 8°C. The maximum humidity was 77% and the minimum 72%.
The reported UV for today is 2 ( Range 1- 11+).
UK range 1- 8 The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around the summer solstice).
The maximum temperature recorded by us in Roda in 2017 was 31.9°C (real feel 34°C) on 29th June The maximum recorded temperature ever in Corfu was 42.8°C The lowest recorded temperature was -8.8°C

Good morning from Roda. We have another clear sunny day in prospect. There isn't a cloud in the sky, the wind is absent the sea is calm but I can hear the small rollers breaking on the shore. It is very hazy with only the occasional snow capped Albanian peak visible across the channel. Our hill are equally hazy added to be the smoke of the bonfires in the olive groves, although vine pruning is now upon us and the waste will be joining those bonfires. There was a heavy dew, which just may have been the remnants of a ground frost as we enjoyed breakfast on the balcony. I was reading today that there is a Greek word for these beautiful days that seem to regularly occur in the last two weeks in January. They are called kingfisher days or halcyon days. Legend has it that kingfishers build their nests from the bones of fish on the sea. They then mate and lay their eggs on these bone rafts. The Gods then ensured that the sea and the weather would be kind to ensure the nests weren't damaged and the brood would hatch. So we get these two weeks of spring before the last of the winter weather in February and March. A lovely legend don't you think.
Yesterday was a bit of a blip in these fine plans of the Gods. It did start out well but got increasingly cloudy as the day progressed. However we did get to a point where the clouds started retreating and we had a beautiful clear evening. I missed the sunset, but if it had been amazing the light does filter in and I would have picked it up, our bathroom window faces due west. In fact it is known for us to stand and admire it there as it is the best seat in the house, no pun intended! It was still very hazy during the evening with, again, only the lights from the biggest Albanian village visible across the channel. The sea was calm with low long rollers reaching the shore. What was amazing was the moonlight. It was so strong, we had long black shadows as we walked. Every detail of the stones and seaweed on the beach could be seen from road as we walked to and from the village. The shadows were so big as we stepped from the lane we both turned to find out where the car was!. Tonight there is supposed to be a super blue moon (second full moon of the month) and a lunar eclipse. Hopefully we can catch some of that if the skies are clear.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Wednesday 31st January 2018 was 7.8°C, real feel 8°C, and the humidity 77% giving a dew point of 4°C. Sorry I have no more records of last year's temperatures.

Good morning from Roda. What a change a day makes, those kingfishers must have hatched their chicks and flown the nest judging by the weather. By the way Kalo Mena for February from the admin team. We awoke to grey skies and extremely poor visibility. Albania had disappeared altogether across a very dark grey and ruffled sea. Our hills behind us a pretty well obscured with mist and murk filling the valleys and working down the flanks. The only good point is that there is no wind at the moment. though we are due some. We have complete cloud cover and a steady drizzle has started as I write this.
The weather yesterday in the morning as beautiful, as the photos show. The almond blossom is so pretty, and I took this photo in Acharavi of the almond and lemon trees in The Lemon Garden. The lemons haven't come out so well, but the sky was that blue. The other photo is of a star flower I took when gathering sea grass along at Almyros beach. Just a single flower set in the stones, no leaves and so delicate. We almost ran over it. The afternoon got increasingly cloudy with fewer sunny spells, but then it all started to clear to give us a pretty sunset. There were still too many clouds on the horizon to see the blue moon, also I think at that time of day the mountains behind us hide it, so it wasn't risen yet here. So saying that, the moonlight was spectacular last night. It was so bright that despite the lack of street lights you could see almost to Acharavi along the beach road. You could even see the stones and pebbles in the sea from the road. The sight of all that moonlight being reflected on the crests of the small gentle rollers was magical. Steve and i stood and watched it for a while before turning away for the apartment.

Good morning from Roda. We have a very windy and wet day here, those kingfishes ought to have left their nest by now, but the sea though a dark steel grey colour is very calm so there is hope for them. That wind is coming from the south so it is battering rain onto our kitchen door (OK our front door) and the wind is whistling past the extractor hood. The clouds are very low down our mountains and Albania has disappeared all together. Many people will be staying indoors gathered round their wood burning sombas, but we will still head out for a coffee and to do a little weekend shopping as tomorrow is due to be very wet. It is mild though, but that wind is making it feel colder.
Yesterday was just a very grey day. The wind mostly stayed away but started building up towards the end of the evening. The clouds were with us all day, and very low down the mountain they were as well. Not a nice day to be in Strinilas or Perithia. Albania was absent across that dark, but calm, sea. We did get some drizzle in Acharavi around mid-day, but, judging by the roads, they had a lot more here in Roda. The evening brought a slight improvement in the visibility with several of the Albanian village lights visible, and the moon was gleaming behind some thinner clouds. It was very mild with the temperature rising during the evening due to those southerly winds, it was nearly 13°C at midnight.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Friday 2nd February 2018 was 13.8°C, real feel 12°C, and the humidity 80% giving a dew point of 10°C. Sorry I have no more records of last year's temperatures.

Good morning from Roda. It is still extremely windy here with very low clouds hiding Albania and playing tag with our mountain top and valleys. We have had to tie everything down on the south balcony! We even had to retrieve a pink blow-up lilo from the bottom of the garden, god knows where it came from! The sea is quite calm close to shore, but you can see rough waves out in the channel. All open sided ferries to Igoumenitsa have been cancelled for today. That actually means most of them as the many closed ferries are removed from service in the winter for some crazy reason. It may be very windy at the moment and dry, though we are expecting rain later on, it is very mild with the temperatures in the mid-teens.
Yesterday was very windy with prolonged spells of very heavy rain. There were times when both the wind and rain eased off a little, but not for very long. However by mid-evening the rain had stopped, though I think drizzle started again later. the sea, close in, remained pretty calm with low long rollers making their way ashore. It stayed mild all day with more or less the same temperature all day, with it increasing slightly as the evening progressed.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Saturday 3rd February 2018 was 14.9°C, real feel 13°C, and the humidity 80% giving a dew point of 12°C. Sorry I have no more records of last year's temperatures.

Good morning from Roda. It is a much better morning we have here. The sky is brightening all the time and the sun is making a determined effort to break through the clouds, and some blue patches developing. Albania is emerging from the haze across a still choppy channel. We can hear waves breaking on the shoreline. There is still a cool breeze that is taking the edge off the temperature. There was a lot more rain during the night to the lawns have large areas of standing water and the ditches are full of running water. Our hill are also free of the oppressing clouds of the last few days, but still have a degree of haze obscuring them.
Yesterday was very very wet with driving rain and strong winds. They barely abated for the whole day, just easing every now and again. The sea did increase a bit with the rollers getting taller and throwing sea grass on the shore, and you could see white horses way out in the channel. There was a lot of standing water around, with the road between The Boathouse and Spiro's shop flooded. The car park was completely covered with quite a depth of water with the poor tree marooned in its raised bed. It was however quite mild with the temperature remaining fairly static at 14-15°C all day.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Sunday 4th February 2018 was 12.9°C, real feel 12°C, and the humidity 84% giving a dew point of 10°C. Sorry I have no more records of last year's temperatures.

Good morning from Roda. It is absolutely beautiful here this morning. We have a deep blue cloudless sky, barely a breeze and increasing warmth. The sea is an amazing shade of blue, with a ruffled surface and noisy waves coming ashore. It was so good to enjoy breakfast on the balcony again. The air clarity is extremely good with the snowy peaks of some of the Albania so clear across that blue channel. Our hills are dark and hazy due to the sun rising behind them and the smoke from the bonfires.
Yesterday started off cloudy, but got increasingly brighter as the day progressed. With the clouds gradually breaking up in the end just leaving one or two traces clinging for dear life to the peaks of the Albanian mountains to the west of us. As the skies cleared so the wind dropped almost in direct proportion, so by sunset we had a cloudless windless end to the day delivering up a the standard 'no cloud' sunset. However as the wind died away so the seas increased from low rollers to white tipped waves crashing along the beach. The evening sky was a beautiful show of dazzling stars, but no moon. The lights of the Albanian villages were back and just as lovely.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Monday 4th February 2018 was 8.4°C, real feel 8°C, and the humidity 73% giving a dew point of 3°C.

Good morning from Roda. It is not as nice a morning as yesterday, but it is still very nice. There was a slight frost first thing that that soon burnt off once the sun rose over the mountains. We have a paler blue sky with some wispy white clouds and a slight haze, so Albania is not as clear. The sea is also paler but flat calm. There s almost no wind, so we again enjoyed breakfast on the balcony.
Yesterday was perfect all day. It stayed sunny all day with almost no wind, A few clouds did try to form in the mid-afternoon but were soon seen off. There was the standard cloudless sunset leading onto a clear starlit night. It was a bit chilly in the evening.

Good morning from Roda. It was very windy during the night and continues to be so. The wind is southerly so the furniture on the south balcony was on the move this morning. It was very cloudy first thing, but they are breaking up, particularly to the north to give some quite good sunny spells. There is a general haziness which is hiding Albania and our hills somewhat. The sea is grey and ruffled but not choppy. It is mild however which is always good.
Yesterday stayed lovely all day though there were some intermittent increases in the breeze. It was decidedly breezy down at Almyros when we were collecting yet more seaweed. There was the usual no clouds sunset leading onto a clear, but slightly hazy, evening. There were many stars but not as bright as the other day. But later on in the evening the wind did start to pick up as expected. As the wind started swinging round to the south the temperature started to increase, with the temperature at 11pm a couple of degrees warmer than at sunset.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Wednesday 6th February 2018 was 15.5°C, real feel 14°C, and the humidity 57% giving a dew point of 8°C.

Good morning from Roda. There was a dawn thunder storm but no rain, which must have been the tail end of the one last night. When we did get up the day was much better than was forecast. There was quite a lot of lovely blue sky with an equal amount of clouds and it has been getting better all the time. There is a gentle breeze and the sea is calm and a pale blue. Albania has just about emerged from the haze that had recently enveloped it, and the murk was definitely a lot less than yesterday. All in all a lovely start to the day, just wish I had got my washing done!
Yesterday was not a great day. It started off cloudy and then the rain started by mid- afternoon, drizzle at first then quite a bit heavier at times, which together with the strong winds, made it uncomfortable to be out. Albania was missing, and probably half the channel for most of the day. The clouds were and murk were a long way down our mountains, so it would not have been very pleasant up in Stinilas. The winds were starting to ease by the evening, but the sea was still crashing big waves heavy with sea grass onto the shore line. The rain had stopped by mid-evening and we got to the village and back dry. Lightning could be seen from towards Albania and the Corfu channel, but we couldn't hear any thunder. A lone cicada braved the weather to chirp away near Makis apartments. It was a mild evening with the late night temperature a pleasant 13°C. The days are warm enough now to encourage the terrapins to bask in sheltered warm spots.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Thursday 7th February 2018 was 12.8°C, real feel 13°C, and the humidity 70% giving a dew point of 8°C.
Sorry I have no more records of last year's temperatures.

Good morning from Roda. It was beautiful first thing, but by the time we had enjoyed our morning cuppa speckled clouds had drifted across the sky and were placing hide and seek with the sun. It is supposed to stay dry today so hopefully the clouds will tire and the sun will prevail. Hope so as I have just put my washing on the line! The air is quite clear with Albania looking very pretty and pastel across an equally pastel blue sea. There is a bit of noise from waves coming ashore, but it looks calm out to sea. Our hills have early morning haze aggravated by more smokes from the bonfires. The wind is barely there so it might just turn out a nice day.
Yesterday, just got betterer and betterer as the day progressed. Once we had had that token shower around mid-day the clouds held up a peace flag and quietly disappeared except for the perimeters. So we ended up with an almost clear sky by late afternoon to give us the standard beautiful bar of burnt orange on the western skyline as the sun went to bed. It cleared the way for a bright starlit night with the stars all trying to outdo each other. Visibility was great with the lights of Albania seeming to increase with every passing month. There was even another patch of light in the sky to bookend the glow from Saranda. No idea which town that could be. We are now approaching lent so yesterday was 'burnt meat day' a religious excuse to have a meat fest and an early bbq. The smell off grilled meat permeated the village last night. I have added a couple of photos of the field of narcissus next to us. and the camomile edging our lane. We have never seen so many narcissi, they are filling the fields and lawns everywhere. The camomile are also so abundant there are seas of the white flowers everywhere, competing with the ordinary daisies turn our lawn white. The photos are not the best quality as the sun was starting to set.

Good morning from Roda. It is a very windy blustery start to the day with squally rain. The sun is doing its best to break through the clouds, succeeding at times to give that hint of warmth. Albania and our hills are playing hide and seek with the mist and murk. there one minute gone the next. The sea is getting progressively rougher with distinct waves visible far out in the channel. As the morning progresses the rain is getting heavier and more persistent.
Yesterday after the clear start got a lot of thin speckled clouds which did mask the sun. However as the day wore on the sun won and it came out quite nice towards the end of the afternoon. However by early evening the clouds won leaving a few blue patches but not anywhere near the sun!. It did stay dry with good visibility and we enjoyed a low key but pretty pastel sunset. The evening was very cloudy, no gaps, but with good visibility, so the lights of Albania and those of a ship going down the channel were numerous and pretty.

Good morning from Roda. It is a grey and windy morning with rain not too far away first thing. Albania is peaking from amongst low clouds showing off the new snow that fell when we had the recent rains. The sea between us is quite rough with many white horses and not a nice colour at all. Our hills are just about clear of the clouds and mist but I expect it isn't nice in the mountain villages. Sunday is a day for the restaurants in Old Perithea and Strinilas to be so busy you would need to book a table.
Yesterday was very wet for all the morning and the early afternoon. The wind was strong all day so, in the rain, it wasn't very nice. However some blue started breaking through and we got a half-hearted sun by 5pm The sunset barely happened as the clouds started winning again. Though by this time the wind had all but died away. We were left with a fairly mild evening with great visibility towards Albania. The sea had large floppy waves crashing on the shore sending up some spray. It was a strange day with regard to the temperature, it stayed more or less constant at approximately 11.5°C plus or minus a degree all day.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Sunday 11th February 2018 was 11.4°C, real feel 8°C, and the humidity 74% giving a dew point of 6°C.
