During the couple nice days last week Pirates started to lay new outside decking, partly done i guess works will continue today. I do find it odd that the planks appear to be untreated before they are laid.
There were also signs of life at El Mar but no work has begun there, they too need new decking. As more rains due later in week i doubt much will happen until the weather improves.
I also believe the storms have undone any good the dredger did for the 'harbour' area. Maybe it will return in due course.

Pirates' Bar had started on the decking before we left, Dave ... I guess as long as the wood is replaced every year, then it doesn't matter too much. I don't think there is much of the other deckings that is salvageable. Skouna always remove and store theirs, but Roxannes is starting to look a bit sad. I understand that both El Mar & New Port have new contracts with the owner, which brings into question the rumoured development of the accommodation at the rear.
I agree about the dredger - it was always going to be a lot of wasted effort.

A quick tour of the village when we got back revealed a number of new things:
The building at Theodoros Apartments that was completely gutted when we left, is now finished to the same high standard as the bungalows alongside.
Drosia seems to be fully operational and is already quite busy.
The toilets & kitchens at Roda Park Restaurant are still being extensively refitted. The toilets are lovely, and they should now be complete, but Kostas and his team still have a lot to do if they are to have the kitchen ready for May 1st.
The old nightclub has been given a clean-up, and there is work taking place at the nail bar, where The Crown used to be.
There is serious-looking work taking place at Joanne's Bakery.
Alex is doing something at Drunken Sailor.
Eleni Apartments seems now to be finished replacing bathrooms etc.
Yummies is already open and doing good business.
Having been open right into the new year, Rialto now seems to have closed.
Stefanos was busy doing something at Nemo.
Dimitris & Haris are busy getting ready at Skouna - no coffees yet though!
Floyd's 'Spiti Pendente' now seems to be finished.
As promised, Giannis Papoutsis has stopped the major apartment construction, high above his gift shop. This will be completed next winter. The gift shop was having a new tiled floor yesterday, to make it one level throughout.
Stella's shop has been completely gutted - let's hope that Michaeli's house upstairs is safe! Pirates' Bar are taking it over - but as what? Guesses please!
Pirates'Bar have raised and improved their outside decking area.
Alexandros Restaurant is hard at it, as is New Port Restaurant next door.
Alex & Sarah were around, but we're not sure what they're doing.
Jon, at the Boathouse, was leaning on the wall trying to decide when to open!
Miltos, at the Brandy Shop, was preparing some nice new furniture.
Kostas, at Ammos Grill Room has extended his outside seating areas, both alongside the restaurant and across the road. It will be a popular venue this summer.
All in all, it's going to be a busy few days ...

In addition to all the more obvious developments around the village, Roda Oasis has moved away from self-catering by converting all of their accommodation to apartments ... a trend we're seeing more & more every year.
Most businesses seem to be aiming at being fully open by May Day and, on reflection, it I think they are all getting ready a little earlier this year. So many are beavering away with new ideas and improvements, but one worries about the few who don't think it necessary to move forward.

There were lots of people working yesterday, but today, Roda has come alive. There are builders & painters, bobcats & pick-ups loaded with new timber, and people - lots of people, all hard at it.
With exactly two weeks to go before what most consider to be the start of the 2018 season, something has been triggered overnight. In addition to what I mentioned yesterday, next to Loft Car Hire, the old ice-cream shop was getting some attention. La Madera has been revarnished throughout, Petrino's Restaurant were busy preparing, Nemo is rejigging its frontage and even Afroditi was coming out of wraps. Skouna's decking was going in, Roxannes were busy painting and Giannis's gift shop is all but complete.
I'm looking forward to seeing all the improvements over the next few days.

Ice cream has been suggested, Dave, but I think it may be more than that. Even the kiosk was getting work done yesterday.

Roda is very busy tonight, with so many businesses putting the finishing touches to their plans for 2018. Unfortunately, whilst most are targeting their opening on the first couple of days in May, there is already a handful of people spread around the various accommodations that have opened early. Added to that, it seems that between 500-700 people are due to arrive at Roda Beach tomorrow and, other than Pirates' Bar, there is unlikely to be much open along the seafront just yet.
