... CUT THE PLASTIC! Greek supermarkets have now stopped issuing plastic bags at checkouts, in line with other EU countries. Bags for fresh produce are still available. Don't forget to take something with you when shopping this summer.

WISH THEY WOULD HERE TOO STEVE, SOME ITEMS ARE DOUBLE WRAPPED IN PLASTIC OF SOME KIND AND A PAIN TO OPEN.....GLAD THE GREEK SUPERMARKETS HAVE STOPPED ISSUING THEM....HOPE WE DO THE SAME HERE

It's only at the checkout that bags are not available kaz, smaller bags are still available for fresh produce. Supermarkets here still offer most of their produce unwrapped and you can choose each individual piece. This is also true in France, Spain & Italy at least. Many UK supermarkets seem to offer everything pre-packed now, a practice that is entirely for their benefit and not the consumer. When we're there, we refuse to buy pre-packed produce.
