Migration Policy Minister Yiannis Mouzalas on Wednesday has declared that Greece's migration problem is becoming more difficult to manage as the number of people arriving on the shores of Greek islands from Turkey since August is up 200 percent compared to the same period last year. The average arrival rate in July was 87 people per day and it shot up to 156 per day in August, while in the months of September and October it rose even further, to 214 per day.
With around 4,000 people arriving on the islands in October alone, Mouzalas described the situation at the congested camps on Lesvos as “very bad” and on Chios as “bad.”

It does seem since some Eastern European countries showed almost racist stances against migrants and because of the elections in Germany, Austria that the EU made a decision to almost leave it up to Greece alone to cope despite the austerity and the fact that tourism has almost been destroyed on some islands as a result. In fact Germany are even sending migrants back to Greece. These people need help if genuine migrants, the economic migrants should be returned with EU refusing any aid to countries who refuse to take back their citizens, e.g. Pakistan. Action needs to happen soon, another bad winter will see real suffering of migrants on overcrowded islands.
