I knew it would be easy. The reason I put it on, is that Newport have lost part of their restaurant as the new person renting the apartment block has segregated the old existing entrance. The block has been leased to a British business man, with all the paperwork signed and sealed. There was a small sign of activity last time as I walked passed. We will be watching the block with great interest over the winter. We all hope that this eyesore will be soon history and complete the rejuvenation of that whole area. We will report on development as and when they happen.

The first time we came to Roda in 1988 we stayed in the apartments above Newport, well above and slightly to the left, the one with the arch over the balcony. Often look at them and wonder if they’ll ever be renovated.

The first time we came to Roda in 1988 we stayed in the apartments above Newport, well above and slightly to the left, the one with the arch over the balcony. Often look at them and wonder if they’ll ever be renovated. Although some work started last season it quickly came to a halt, however there has been a rumour that someone connected with Thomas Cook in Corfu Town has bought the lease and has plans for it. We are keeping a watch over things and will report back if and when we hear anything. But you are right in that it is a pity it has been allowed to get in such a state. The same could be said of The Roda Inn which has just opened for the season. The majority of businesses along the seafront have spruced up the premises and it is looking very attractive, only to be spoilt by a few. Jan

'Spoilt by a few' probably the less popular in the first place that do not have the means and know how to develop and keep up. For some the ole style Roda might be a refreshing link to the past. There are plenty of progressive young business people to keep the village moving forward
