It’s amazing, Dave - we were sitting in the main square of Peratalada in the Costa Brava, on Tuesday 28th, watching our first swallows/martins of the year and enjoying their antics in the glorious sunshine. Clearly, flights from Africa have begun too ...

Today there are jcb's on the beach sorting ditch and sand outside Alexandros and New Port and Pirates. Once done Alexandros will relay and repair rest of their decking. Seawed at that end beach and by harbour also being removed.
At Petrinos they are doing the inside to the newly fitted roofing. At Oscars they have started to paint the outside.
Preparing the outside areas of Skouna and Roxannes have also begun. Meanwhile the old Crusoes has been boarded up so nobody will be moving in this year.
Works still continue at a pace at the new Crusoes and at Theodoras as things start to get ready for opening.
Afrodite is to open on 1st May, the staff being called in aftr easter to prepare the rooms, kitchen and dining area.
There are plenty signs of activity up at Roda Beach which is usually open for Easter, not sure if that is definite this year. I will go and find out. Nearby Robellas doesn't open until beginning of May.
Some of the curently closed mini markets and tourist shops are being cleaned and in some cases painted ready for opening. The painting at the Mexican is now all finished just the few remaining outside tables to be put out.
So it is a hive of activity in the sun as we end the month.

Very busy in Roda, beach has been cleaned and raised up a bit. Between Pirates and Alexandros the ditch now has a drain with it running half way down beach, they share cost. Decking areas laid out, even at New Port so beach parking now stop. Coastguard was around yesterday, also people with drone filming the beachfront from the air. Big rumours they will be limiting beach decking to the level of the house next to Pirates. This wil have big effect on Pirates, Roxannes and Skouna, apparently go back long time they shouldn't even have a beach side. Crusoes are also preparing beach decking, having put plant tubs on road so you can no longer turn a car there. I see problem as this decking is in the face of the Harbour Bar, so may confuse tourists.
Crusoes also busy work on interior and frontage. Works continue at Skouna and Roxannes as well.
Theodoras still busy but the apartments look finished, no changes to signage as yet re changes to Olympic/Thompsons signage. Angelinas are finishing changes to their frontage, they have interior shutters some 6 foot behind outside glass doors.
Works continue to finish front of Nikos Taverna, next door Roda Park are painting chairs and tables and cleaning. The old village bakery now clean and decorate inside.
Petrinos still painting etc on the inside of the open area having completed their new roof. Oscars have painted outside at front. The grill room now has outside seats.
Dreamos (sp) have cleaned hire cars and have some plated ready for hire. Sunriders have cut the grass and are preparing to bring in the bikes.
On the beach, Ninos are cleaning, again checking and painting furniture. Coral Hotel are still interior decorating as the are are ladders and tressels about.
Roda Beach not open until 29th April. I cannot find any large hotel or apartments open in Roda for Easter this year even though it same dates as UK. I am aware of smaller apartments open that have guests already, staying for month to be with families living here.

Yesterday the quads and bicycles for hire were all put out at Sunriders. All shops are busy cleaning to open, sorting stock etc. Signs of life at back of Afodite today.
Elsewhere at Theodoras seem to be tidying up now, nearly finished work at Angelinas, Petrinos and Yummies. Busy still at Coral, Nikos, Roda Park and Vilage Bakery.
At Crusoes the bar is in place, circular part inside and part outside onto the edge of raised decking. Decorating to the outside continues, crazy pathing being put on the new ramp.

Sunriders now have scooters out. Top Gear are starting to bring out quads and bikes but none plated as yet.
Elsewhere it is now very busy as everyone tries to complete cleaning, decorating etc before Easter. Skouna and Roxannes busy setting up but still no action at Roda Inn.
Pirates have put a couple loungers and umbrellas on the beach. El Mar are busy, will they use last years beach furniture or will they create new?
Still busy putting back signage at Petrinos , Nikos and Roda Park busy decorating and painting furniture.
Seems lot to do but will be good to see Roda come alive later in the month.

It’s a great time of year, Dave - I love to see all these places coming alive for the start of the season. They will be trying to get everything done before Easter, so that they can enjoy the festivities with their families and be ready for the first large influx of visitors. Don’t hold your breath over Roda Inn, though ... it’s likely to be the end of June before it opens.

There are an increasing number of tourists arriving for Easter, some apartments are open and there are also guests at Theodoras. Several were enjoying the beach and youngsters even went in the sea! Some are hiring quads or beach buggies and driving inland to look around, in addition you now see hire cars on the roads. While the travel shops in Roda are closed there are posters by ATMs and in some shops advertising Leandros Travel coach to Town on Saturday for the pot smashing, departing Acharavi at 8.30am.
Leopard Travel have opened their shop next to Express Supermarket in Roda.
Today their are children in the sea, parents on sunloungers. Meanwhile very busy along the front at Roxannes decorating outside of main building and set up outside seating, Doolphin where Floyd is attaching seats to the chairs, Alexandros where Andonis and friend are on the roof, removing part of it as they cconvert it back to a roof terrace, El Mar busy clean and paint inside, Crusoes where about 10 people are busy mainly working on the rest if the front, sanding the handrails, etc. Harbour Bar cuting grass outside and setting up pot plants. About half dozen lazing in the sun by the pool at Theodoras. The 12 Gods in old Roundabout Bar open yesterday as an ice cream parlour, both Greek and Italian ices. A couple tourist shops are also open. Pirates had a good few in for breakfast and also othrrs sat outside enjoying the sun.
At the crossroads the junction kerbing in centre of road is being painted a bright yellow.

Work has started on the clean up to open at Afodite today. Big Ben were working before Easter weekend. The frontage at Crusoes is almost finished, now work on the bar and inside.
The apotheki opposite Theodoras has had temporary repairs to the shutters and been painted terracotta.
Elsewhere everyone doing finishing touches ready to open. Monday 1st May or April 29th seem to be when the majority will be open for business.

Despite early rain, threat of more with plenty grey clouds and gusty winds it is very busy along the beachfront today with nearly all tavernas, shops, bars and hoteĺs busy preparing to open, only Pirates needing no works and only New Port and Roda Inn not doing any works this week as yet though there was a sign of life at the Roda Inn. It really is busy time as the majority will be open by 1st May.
There are signs of preparations at Oasis but all still seems quiet at Pegasus.

Still busy around Roda with just over a week until the majority of places open. One change not yet reported to you is the work upstairs at Alexandros, they are expanding the roof terrace, installing toilets and a bar upstairs. The plan is to still to open for meals from 1st May.
Crusoes work still proceeding at a pace, now concentrating on the bar and the inside with the outside almost finished. It is looking a very good refurbishment.
Nearly all the shops that will open are either ready and having stock delivered or being cleaned in readiness. The other mini markets around Roda are also starting to receive deliveries.
Everytime you walk through Roda you notice some change or works you hadnt seen before. The number of tourists slightly dropped after Easter but will pick up once May arrives and the majority of the hotels and apartments open.
The beach still needs the seaweed cleared at the Afrodite end. There is not as much as in some years but i guess work will wait until these winds stop and the sea drops back from its high level making the work easier.
