Good morning from Roda. OK, I am getting tired of this! The word for today is SNOW!. Steve woke me with the news that the ground was covered in snow at 8am this morning. Apparently it started snowing around 2am and we had quite a coating, even more up in the hills. Even now, by late morning, much of the snow has gone from here, but the villages up the sides of the mountain are still covered as are the upper slopes and ridges behind us. The snow is further down the flanks of the Albanian mountains than I have seen. The sun is trying to get out though we do have almost 100% cloud cover. I hope I can get my washing dry. There is a chill breeze, and the sea is fairly calm. We have had a long spell of those long rollers coming ashore, waxing and waning in height but consistent with their presence. The visibility is pretty good all round.
[/div] Yesterday was cold all day. The snow had all but gone except in cold pockets by dark. It is strange seeing snow on the beach here, and some of the streams running across the beach frozen in places. The schools were shut yesterday around us and a message went out that they were to be closed again today. Treacherous road conditions have been reported around with a particular warning for the hill between Sidari and Roda near Karousades. Our walk to and from the village at night wasn't as baltic as it has been. However looking at the TV reports of the snow around Greece and Turkey we have got off lightly. The plumbers and the water board must be run off their feet. In some areas of the island the water is being cut off from midnight to conserve water stocks, as the rate of use at the moment is heavier than in the summer! The temperature at 10am on Wednesday 11th January 2017 was 3.9°C, real feel 4.0°C, and the humidity 64% giving a dew point of -2°C. Yesterday's maximum temperature was 3.9°C (real feel 2.0°C) and the minimum was 1.2°C , the dew point -6°C. The maximum humidity was 54% and the minimum 42%. 11th. January 2016 the maximum temperature was 18.2°C and the minimum 12.4°C. The reported UV for today is 1 ( Range 1- 11+). UK range 1- 8 The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around the summer solstice. The maximum temperature recorded by us in Roda in 2016 was 32.1°C (real feel 39°C) on 25th June. The maximum recorded temperature ever in Corfu was 42.8°C in 2007. The lowest recorded temperature was -8.8°C

I try and make them honest and truthful. Roda is a beautiful place to live summer or winter and we like to share that with the members of the forum. Good morning from Roda. It is a sunny morning, we have quite a few clouds around though. There is a cool breeze and the sea looks a bit ruffled with some waves being seen coming ashore. The view towards Albania is fairly clear, and it looks like the snow from the lower slopes has gone. We are quite hazy, and some snow can still be seen on the upper ridges. It was warm enough in the sun to have breakfast on the balcony.
The snow that was on the ground at 8am was all but gone by early afternoon. Though it persisted at anything other than sea level. This snow had created transport problems with the main road to Corfu town closed at the Troumpeta pass , the road from Roda to Sidari affected by black ice on the steep hill at Karousades and the coast road also affected by black ice near Kalami. I expect many other roads in the island were also badly affected with the likes of Old Perithia cut off. The children were off school ,but are back today. The strangest sight yesterday was a pick up lorry full of snow going through Acharvi obviously so some children could have some serious winter fun. What some parents will do for their kids. The plumbers and water board men will still be rushed off their feet, as will the people supplying wood for people's fires and Sombas (wood stoves). The day stayed dull and cold even though the temperatures were a little higher than previously. We didn't get a sunset, but some of the Albanian peaks got lit up with a flood of pink light, they looked so pretty.
The temperature at 10am on Thursday 12th January 2017 was 6.7°C, real feel 6.0°C, and the humidity 57% giving a dew point of -1°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 8.0°C (real feel 8.0°C) and the minimum was 2.0°C , the dew point 1.0°C. The maximum humidity was 65% and the minimum 51%.
12th. January 2016 the maximum temperature was 18.0°C and the minimum 15.3°C.
The reported UV for today is 2 ( Range 1- 11+).
UK range 1- 8 The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around the summer solstice.

Good morning from Roda. It is a cool and cloudy start to the day. the mist is creeping down our valleys, and the sky is ominous over Albania with the sea dark and ruffled. The visibility is not great all round. There is a breeze but it is quite chilly. There is a man at the rear of us taking advantage of the break in the weather to prune and tidy up his vines. We are due quite a lot of rain in a couple of days.
Yesterday was a lovely, if chilly day, with plenty of sunshine as the clouds cleared. By the end of the afternoon we had a clear sky with only one or two persistent little things loitering. The sea had calmed down a lot and reflected the full moon beautifully across the waters of the bay. There had been only a mediocre sunset. The clouds were starting to build up during the evening on our walk back from the village.
The temperature at 10am on Friday 13th January 2017 was 8.3°C, real feel 8.0°C, and the humidity 68% giving a dew point of 2°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 9.3°C (real feel 9.0°C) and the minimum was 2.4°C , the dew point 1.0°C. The maximum humidity was 58% and the minimum 52%.
13th. January 2016 the maximum temperature was 16.3°C and the minimum 10.8°C.

We have had crazy wild winds for the last two days, still here today and now it's started snowing with some areas told to expect blizzard conditions I have just been looking at the UK news. So pleased I am not doing my old commute with all that snow in Scotland. Though we saw the Greek news last night and it is still very bad on the maniland and some of the Greek Islands, especially Evia, Skopelos and Skiathos. We are praying that the snow keeps away for our return journey across Europe to the UK Jan

Good morning from Roda. We had a glorious start to the day, with mostly blue skies and the sun shining on the snowy peaks of Albania across the channel. The visibility was so clear all the villages were visible. The sea appears calm and there is a gentle breeze from the north west. We comfortably managed our breakfast on the balcony, but the clouds are starting to roll in. It is the first morning in quite a while that we do not have the fires on, the front door and lounge window are open and we are not freezing to death! We are due a lot of rainy weather for the next week or so. It was a much warmer night with the temperature of 11°C. In fact the temperature was rising throughout the evening, reaching 11°C at midnight and it didn't fall after that.
Yesterday was a bit of a wash out. After a few pathetic attempts at brightness the sun gave up and disappeared for the day. The clouds got increasingly thicker with longer spells of drizzle. By mid- afternoon the drizzle had settled into quite heavy rain. The wind did get quite strong at times but died down in the evening, as did the rain to give a fairly dry night. In that we managed to get into the village without needing the umbrella, but it was drizzling for our return journey. It seemed all the darker because the street lights were out again.
The temperature at 10am on Saturday 14th January 2017 was 12.1°C, real feel 12.0°C, and the humidity 63% giving a dew point of 5°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 11.3°C (real feel 11.0°C) and the minimum was 2.0°C , the dew point 7.0°C. The maximum humidity was 58% and the minimum 52%. 14th. January 2016 the maximum temperature was 14.1°C and the minimum 6.6°C.

Jan and Steve One day our dreams will come true but at the moment we will have to just manage with 2 weeks in September September was one of the months I used to come here on holiday. The resort is calming down after the busy high season, the weather mostly is still hot and sunny and the sea is warm. A great time for boat trips as well, jumping into the sea is nice as the sea is so warm. Let us know your dates so we can add you to our list. Jan

Good morning from Roda. It is a lovely sunny morning here. We have bright blue sky, lots of sunshine and a gentle breeze. Albania is crystal clear across the deep blue sea, topped with snowy peaks and a layer of low clouds. The startlingly blue sea has a few waves coming ashore. A speed boat heading east along the channel left a snow white wake to its rear. We enjoyed our Sunday breakfast on the balcony watching a pair of buzzards circling their way towards the crossroads, their calls echoing around us.
Yesterday started off quite well, but got increasingly windy and cloudy as the day went on. We could hear the waves crashing on the shore, and could see white horses out to sea. However as the evening progressed the winds did start to ease off, as did the waves. It was a glorious moonlit, starlit night as we walked back from the village for our dinner. The almost full moon was dancing on the waves of the bay looking towards Acharvi, and the villages of Albania twinkled across the sea, chatting to their Greek cousins on our side of the divide. The clear night causing the temperature to fall to its lowest point of the day at 7°C.
The temperature at 10am on Sunday 15th January 2017 was 7.9°C, real feel 8.0°C, and the humidity 66% giving a dew point of 2°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 12.9°C (real feel 13.0°C) and the minimum was 7.2°C , the dew point 9.0°C. The maximum humidity was 79% and the minimum 52%.
15th. January 2016 the maximum temperature was 15.7°C and the minimum 10.8°C.
The reported UV for today is 2 ( Range 1- 11+).
