We have been visiting Roda for the past 35 years. On our last visit 23 May to 1 June my husband John took critically ill on 31st May just as we were going to enjoy our last day in the village. I would like to thank Nikki Alexakis and family at The Dolphin Taverna for their quick response in calling a doctor (Andreas) he immediately turned up and once he had all the details he rang for an emergency taxi to take us to the clinic in Sidari where John was seen by a fantastic medical team with Dr Muhammed. This then became an emergency and an ambulance called to take us to a private clinic. However on the journey John took a turn for the worse the doctor was following with an adrenalin injection as they did not think he was going to make the journey to the clinic. He was taken to Corfu General Hospital as there wasn't enough time to go to the clinic. A team of doctors were waiting outside the doors ready for John. He was found to have a gastric bleed and only minutes to live. The team headed by Dr Vicky Kostopoulou were fantastic and saved Johns life. He was in hospital 7 days. My stay with John at the hospital was quite an experience, although it was exceptionally clean and families are expected to look after their own, which I did, not speaking any Greek I was helped by many and can't thank them all enough at this stressful and tearful time, not knowing for sure for the first few days if I would be going home alone....
We are both thankful for all the help we received from all the Corfu people we met at this time knowing how difficult these times are for everyone in Greece they all did everything they could to make our stay in hospital as easy as possible and were very kind and helpful.
When we came back to the village we stayed for another 9 days until a flight was arranged via our insurance company. Once again Nikki, Nico, Stella and Floyd could not do enough for us we have felt like and have been family over the past 35 years and at this time everyone in Roda came together for us. Andreas the doctor came to see us twice whilst we were in the village and we met up with all the medical team from Sidari when they came to the Dolphin Taverna for dinner. We are looking forward to coming back but I may not be this October as John has to attend some hospital appointments here in the UK to make sure all is OK. We shall be back next year... Looking forward to it
Huge Thank You to Everyone
