Well three or four years back now I left this forum after Nick and I parted ways.
For those who don't know me I'm Beckie. I'm nearing 39 now. I first discovered Roda in 2008 when I came visiting with my cousin Davinia. After that I returned multiple time, my last visit being May 2012.
Today I thought I would revisit this forum. These days I'm in a steady relationship which I've been in for a year there abouts (For those who know Nick - we are still good friends and live on the same street - he too is happily settled in a relationship).
Anyway my other half and I are looking mid May to book a late holiday (due to his work we can't commit to anything til last minute these days). We are after somewhere not to rowdy and with plenty of walks etc. And you guessed it Roda is one of the possible options (along with Alykes in Zante).
So what's the village like these days? Has much changed?
Lastly hello to anyone who may remember me, and nice to meet you to those (probably the majority) who don't. I'm now going to go quiet and have a good read of the board!
Hi Beckie - welcome back to the forum and, hopefully, back to Roda. I remember your first visit with Davinia ... I think we met at the FGT at Maggie’s. Sadly, Maggie’s has long-since closed, but she’s still around the village enjoying her retirement. Obviously there have been a few changes since you were last here, but most of the people are the same and the friendliness continues to please. If you choose Roda, then it would be good to see you again.
You certainly do remember well Steve, it was indeed Maggies, in Sep 2008. I recall the sun really heating up the second half of that week to 35' plus. Our Davinia is now married and Mum to a little boy, Alexander. We were looking at some of her old pics from Roda when I was across at hers last.
I'm still in touch with a number of friends from my Roda days on Facebook (just shows what a friendly place it is), whenever I see their pictures it brings back memories and I reminiss of one day returning.
Roda is definiatly high on the list of options. The big decider though will be flights dates and times as work is so restrictive, so of we want to get a good 10-11 days we will have to go with whatever flights we can as early as poss in the window we are given.so fingers crossed for Corfu ones. I've already checked on travel republic and can see the Pegusus has rooms just waiting for me to book!
I've been looking on the "we will be there" thread and spotted a number of familiar names.
Also been reading about the road to Acharavi. I know the beach road was always wearing away. Has that virtually discinitigrated now? I use to love walking via the beach one way and road the other, recall a great little meze place on the main road in Acharavi (right hand side if walking away from Roda).

Get yourself back to the village of your dreams - if you have time to look at Paula's and my story of how we got to go to Roda as partners -your partner will love it and walk miles to return.
Pegasus would be a good choice, Beckie - it would be good to see you back in Roda and contributing again to our forum. Clearly, you have to take the best deal that you can, but don’t leave it too long before returning.
The road along the beach to Acharavi has taken a bit of a hammering this winter as workmen continue to lay the infrastructure for some future form of mains drainage. As Billy said one day, the road did look more like a goat track at one time! The good news is that it seems their deadline for this phase seems to be coming to an end, and they are starting to patch up the mess they made. I can confirm that the route is walkable again now and we’ll see what Sunday’s rain does to clear the sand.
I’m not sure which meze place you refer to, but there is a newish one that you won’t have seen. The first building on the right in Acharavi is home to a meze restaurant, and very good it is too. It’s called ‘Allegria.’ Opposite Roda’s pharmacy, we have a new bar also offering mezes - it’s called “The Olive.’ I wonder which other new businesses we have since you were here last?
I remember that too, Jackie, now that you mention it - wasn’t kaz there too?
Steve
Kaz was indeed there..staying at the Affroditi if I remember rightly?
Hard to believe ots been 8 years since that first trip.
I reckon if I can get a decent price then I will win my case for a visit. I've been looking at flights but for once I think a package may actually be cheaper. Flights are silly priced right now for some reason.
Unless I see a photo of you becksyj....I can't recall you at the moment?..when were you thinking of going?..I will be there on the 5th June also Sept.4th...hope to see you out there...
I can't actually remember how to post pictures on here has been so long, and I'm on my mobile. I've got one though which was taken on that very day if anyone can help with the posting side? I can always email it someone?
janiemou: Paula and dave thank you so much for my belated birthday meal. I had a lovely night and got home safely.

janiemou: There will be places starting to close, but there will be still plenty of choice for bars and restaurants. Most places try and stay open until the end of October.

maudy: Hi Jan , are there still a lot of Eastern European visitors as it was said that they may have caused the rise in covid cases .
Sept 15, 2021 22:02:29 GMT 2
janiemou: There don't seem to be as many and the number of positive covid teste is remaining quite stable considering the rise in visitors.

lisydaly: 40 new cases yesterday bringing the total so far this month to 816 -not so good
Sept 21, 2021 11:41:11 GMT 2
janiemou: that has been the average for some time now anywhere between 30 and 50 cases a day. Much lower proportionally than North Lanarkshire where my other home is. But, very concerning all the same.

janiemou: If anyone wonders why I haven't take off the thread about Thomas Cook, it's because it is the only one left with Steve's name on it.

trevor: Good Afternoon. Thanks for posting the news on the Newport, it has been our favorite for many years. Do you know if the reincarnation will be a traditional Greek Taverna ?. Also love your news on developments. Regards Trevor
Mar 15, 2022 16:41:47 GMT 2
janiemou: Hi I am sad to report that I don't think It will be a traditional Taverna. Which is a sad loss to the beach road. But we shall see once it opens. If I find out more I will report it here.

kernowman: what the situation with the 2 Alexandros Taverna’s ?
Jan 23, 2023 18:55:06 GMT 2
janiemou: The Alexandros on the Beach is owned and run by Alex, Alexandros in the village is run by his children Spiros and Christina. The names were changed for advertising inin-flight magazines and the existing ones were not Greek!
Jan 25, 2023 12:03:52 GMT 2
janiemou: I am sorry I put Spiros instead of Adonis for Alex's son. Put it down to old age!
