Jan, on a lot of weather sites, e.g. accuwaether do it, when they show the temperature of say 80 in small print underneath it says 'real feel'. The real feel figure is usually several degrees higher say 85 even on days when there is a stiffer breeze about. Are you able to explain to me why this is and how 'real feel' is calculated. It always puzzles me.

The real feel figure is usually several degrees higher say 85 even on days when there is a stiffer breeze about. Are you able to explain to me why this is and how 'real feel' is calculated. It always puzzles me. OK. Real Feel is a combination of the actual temperature and the relative humidity. There is a complex formula for working this out. I have a chart which I will use when it gets hotter, but am still investigating how to get a figure for Roda (when it is like today), whether it be real feel or the opposite, the chill factor, because we need that in the winter as well. I have a chart which only starts at 27C (80F), as over this temperature the figures start to have a real impact on how you feel the heat, and even on our health, especially the young, the old and those with breathing problems. I have started to report the dew point which indicates how comfortable it feels, again this is a combination of the temperature and humidity but using a simpler conversion factor. So it can feel muggy and close at a low temperature than, say, we have to day, or it can feel uncomfortably dry at a higher temperature or visa versa, or just comfortable like today. Hope this helps, it is difficult to explain. Jan

Thanks Jan, very interesting. Seems the temperature on a website hides a complexity of what the weather really is and will move onto.

Good morning from Roda. It is a nice morning, we have patchy white thick clouds and some thin high ones. The sky though is mostly blue and the sun is shining, though it does get hidden for a moment or two. There is a cooling breeze and good visibility here in Corfu, but Albania is hazy. The sea is blue, calm and inviting. The swimming yesterday was very good.
Yesterday was pretty good all day. The thin high cloud thickened and darkened to give the occasional cloudy spell and the breeze remained until early evening when it died down to nothing. The clouds cleared from overhead, though they remained over Albania and gave a flash or two lightening. It was a mild pleasant evening to be sat on the terrace of The Boathouse. Despite the clouds it was a mediocre sunset, but still pretty with shades of grey and lilac.
The readings at 10 am on Friday 10th.June 2016 are:- Temperature 22.8°C and humidity 73% The dew point (how humid it feels) is a comfortable 18°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 25.8°C and the minimum was 17.0°C . The maximum humidity was 74% and the minimum 57%
10th. June 2015:- Maximum temperature 25.8°C, Minimum 19.4°C, Maximum UV 8.
The reported UV for today is 8 ( Range 1- 11+). It is hot in the sun, take care and apply that sunscreen and seek shade around noon. UK range 1- 8 The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around the summer solstice).

Hi I've heard a nasty rumour that there is going to be a thunder storm on Monday (which just happens to be when we are arriving) have you heard anything about this and, more importantly if you have what time they are forecasting it for? Hopefully we will be safely on the ground before anything happens but I pity anyone that does get caught up in it = Thanks for any info xxx

The current forecast for Monday is for rain all day, with a chance of thunder in the early morning, up to say 10am. That is three days away and everything could change. It all depends on the strong southerly winds that are forecast to bring it this way. The same applies to Tuesday, but the weather system is due to abate by lunchtime as the winds swing around to the west. Some sites forecast thunder for today - we heard three bangs and there were four spots of rain in Sfakera. Don’t be too worried as these events don’t always materialise.

Good morning from Roda. We have a sky of two halves. To the north of us it is a clear cloudless blue, apart from the usual clouds topping the Albanian mountains. To the south of us our mountains are propping up thick clouds. I think Ipsos (the other side of the mountains) will be very cloudy. There is hardly any breeze, it is warm and the sea is blue and inviting. The sun is in its rightful place in the sky.
Yesterday was cloudier than of late. We had a rumble of thunder late morning and I heard of a possible drop or two of rain. There after the day was pretty good, cloudy with good sunny spells. There was a slight breeze and the sea calmed down to almost a millpond as the afternoon progressed and the breeze swung around. The clouds did increase in number and density late afternoon, but we still had heat and some sunshine. The clouds did their usual evening thing and mostly disappeared to the horizon. We had a lovely sunset with delicious pink clouds 360° around us. The evening was warm and balmy.
The readings at 10 am on Saturday 11th.June 2016 are:- Temperature 22.3°C and humidity 75% The dew point (how humid it feels) is a comfortable 17°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 25.4°C and the minimum was 18.2°C . The maximum humidity was 77% and the minimum 56%
11th. June 2015:- Maximum temperature 226.0°C, Minimum 19.1°C, Maximum UV 9.

Some things are far more important than the weather - a new grandchild being one of them! Congratulations Jan - I bet you can't wait to meet the new member of your family!

Good morning from Roda. I must say thank you for all the many good wishes I have received on the birth of my latest grandchild, Alina, I am very touched. I am so looking forward to getting to meet her. However here in Roda we have a lot of clouds around this morning, but we do have good long sunny spells. The wind, which was gentle, earlier on is picking up significantly. It is still nice and warm and the visibility is quite good. Albania is visible, just about, across the channel which is blue close to us but has a funny brown streak close to Albania.
Yesterday was a day of sunshine and clouds. There were good long sunny spells with a gentle breeze all day. The sea was only slightly ruffled so we got lots of swims in the refreshing sea. The clouds did thicken during the late afternoon, to give a more significant cover. However as has happened so regularly over the last few days, the clouds melted during the evening to give a lovely mild starlit night. The fireflies are still dancing and twinkling in the fields next to us. The sunset looked mediocre from what I could see through the windows of the taverna we were enjoying our meal at.
Oops! Just noticed I had last year's maximum temperature a rather hot 226.0 instead of 26.0. Will never make a great proof reader!
The readings at 10 am on Sunday 12th.June 2016 are:- Temperature 23.3°C and humidity 74%. The dew point (how humid it feels) is a comfortable 18°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 24.7°C and the minimum was 17.3°C . The maximum humidity was 77% and the minimum 62%
12th. June 2015:- Maximum temperature 27.0°C, Minimum 20.7°C, Maximum UV 8.
