Hi,
Just booked 1st trip to Corfu and Roda. It looks lovely from the photos I've seen. We've been to Symi, Parga, Skaithos etc, so looks perfect for us. Staying at Theodoros Fiona, which looks fab.
I'd really like to see Corfu Town. Are there any trips from Roda to Corfu Town. How much would it cost to go. Any other tips on the best traditional tavernas, best bars etc much appreciated.
Counting down the days!!!
Thanks in advance

Hi Neil - welcome to Roda ... we all think you’ve made a great choice! Theodoros is very popular and one of the best venues in Roda.
Corfu Town is fantastic and there are several ways of getting there. If it’s not too late in the season, a boat trip can be a good chance to see both the Town and the lovely north-east coast. Alternatively, any of the travel shops in the village will sell you a coach trip into town or, catch a service bus from outside the Afroditi Hotel and spend all day there. That is the cheapest way and the trip takes just over an hour depending on how many cigarette stops the driver makes!
I am always amazed at how our bars polarise people ... many will recommend their top three or four bars, which are the very bars others will not venture into. For some, it will be the cheapest beer, or the best cocktails, others want a quiz or a sea view, or maybe it’s the owner or the staff. The best thing is try a half in each one over the first couple of days and see if you can remember which you liked best! One bar that seems to be universally enjoyed is The Boathouse, which is probably one of your closest on the short walk into Roda.
People do have their favourite restaurants and there is less division with them. Much depends on your preference for food and if you will try Greek cuisine, then you can go just about anywhere. We do have one or two specialist restaurants, but the majority lean towards the traditional. For me, I prefer a smaller menu where I can guarantee that all the meals are cooked freshly using local ingredients. I do suspect a restaurant that offers an enormous range of meals, and that goes for any place or country. Favourites for many include Roda Park, Nikos Taverna, El Mar and The Old House. There are many others. If it’s a snack or a cheap meal, try Yummies or one of our three value-for-money grill rooms. If you are a big meat eater, then Drosia is the place to go. We also have Tex-Mex and Italian. For mezes, try the recently opened ‘Olive’, just behind Theodoros on the main road.
There are lots to choose from, Neil - after your visit, you must let us know what your favourites are.

Hi Neil, I am sure you will enjoy Roda as it is a friendly place where the locals go out of their way to help and look after you. Having just returned from a two week holiday there... The 2015 Clayton Family Restaurant Recommendations are as follows:
Alexandros on the Beach - Short walk along the beach to sit on the upstairs terrace, great at sunset Thalasea - Main Road next to Panorama pool La Madera - Tex Mex - Main road Nikos family Taverna - Back Road Drossia - Main Road toward the crossroads Grill Room - Main Road Yummies - For snacks - Main Road
All the restaurants in Roda are worth a try, I've not come across a bad one yet, but these are the ones we went back to during our stay.
Happy Holidays!
Malc

Thanks very much everyone, some great information for me to check out. Flying out on 31st August, so hopefully the boat trips will be running. I love all the tradional greek specialities...kleftico, octopus, stifado etc, but the kids do love pasta, pizza, so I think every box will be ticked, with the great variety in Roda. The Old House looks very nice, as does Alexandros on the Beach. I'll have a look at the rest of the recommendations now, as it too wet and windy to leave the office! Out of interest, I do love a gyros when we fancy a night off from a sit down meal. Are the any places selling gyros in Roda? Anyway, not long now to an ice cold Mythos at the Boathouse !

We have three grill rooms, Neil, each selling gyros pitta - great value for money.

Hi Neil
You have made an excellent choice! We visited Roda 5 years ago and have been back at least once a year ever since. We have made some lovely friends both here on the forum and locally in Roda. The village is the right mix of old and new and there is a fantastic selection of bars and restaurants to choose from. We were out in April and sadly won't be going back again this year but will definitely be out again next year. Enjoy - you'll have a fab time

Look up Roda restaurants on Tripadvisor gives you good idea how people rate them. I look at both ends of the spectrum

We arrive as Roda virgins on 22 May - I've just changed flight to 14 night instead of 7 on basis of what you all say ! Had a real tough couple of years and coming out the other end now - thinking of at Angelinas - I believe you get all the facilities of Theodora's ? We like s/c and a village with beach - roda sounds just brilliant - looking forward to it all - and thanks Steve for the welcome

You’re right about Angelina’s, huntylad, in fact you can use the facilities at any pool complex in the village as long as you buy the occasional drink or snack at the bar. Theodoros is one of the best though ...

Our first trip to Roda was in 1989 as a belated honeymoon, booked on the Sunday, flew on the Monday, £99 each for a fortnight! Been back many times since, with the kids as toddlers, then teenagers, added on friends and family along the way who've all fallen in love with Roda and returned.
The very first restaurant we ate in was Odysseus, Spiro now retired and Theo manages/owns it now, under a different name, but it still remains a favourite. On our first night we always go to the Dolphin, for red snapper, sitting almost on the beach and then downing a few rakis with the owners. Pirates for breakfast, Crusoes for the quizzes, in between times, wherever the fancy takes us, we like everywhere and am sure you will too. Looking forward to the Old Boathouse which is a new addition since our last visit.
