Interesting news, be good if it was run more efficiently and improved. And if the changes at Frankfurt Airport over the years, are anything to go by, it should make the arrival and departure experience more pleasant!

I think the service at CFU has improved massively in the last few years, but it does creak and groan a bit at peak season, especially with weather like we have had recently. I have mixed feelings about the announcement and much depends on whether Fraport invests heavily in improvements and infrastructure. Are they able to do that simultaneously in fourteen airports? Only time will tell. I don’t like selling off the family silver, much as we have done in the UK with our public utilities, but we do need improvements. Maybe the first measure will be to finish the new road and extend the runway.

I cant help but agree Malc - only ever been through Corfu airport - don't know how similar other Greek airports are ? I don't know how long you've been passing through the airport Kath but it has improved over the years, I can remember when there was no air conditioning and you had to put your own case on the luggage trolleys in the back car park! I can think of one improvement I would like to see, and that's in Departures, I still do not understand the logic of checking in, then having to lump your suitcase to the security scanner at the end of the Check In desks! It causes so much confusion and double the amount of queues and stress for people... Anyway, lets hope they do spend some money on it and it leads to a far better experience than we currently receive, Malc

Been going to Corfu since 1983 - and we have noted some improvements - but I agree with you about the farcical arrangement with cases at check-in which is something straight out of the dark ages!

We don’t know of any other airport where this happens, but ... is it not better, and hence more secure, for the traveller to be with his or her luggage when it is scanned? If there is a problem, then both luggage and the individual are taken out of the system together. The alternative of remote scanning could mean having to marry up the person with their luggage later, resulting in them missing their flight. If I were designing a security system for an airport, I might just consider Corfu’s system to be tighter.

The Prefect of the Ionian Islands has declared his opposition to this move, a statement endorsed by the Mayor of Corfu, Konstantinos Nikolouzos, who told the press.
“The concession of 14 airports, including the airport of Corfu, to the German joint venture, is a very negative development, which finds us completely opposed” .... “the Municipality of Corfu will react to the concession by any means and will join any mobilization required, depending on the developments. According to the mayor, the Ioannis Kapodistrias Airport, one of the biggest and most lucrative in Greece, holds the 5th place in the overall passenger traffic between regional airports in the country."

Have you seen that Tsipras has stepped down?

He’s stepped down to clear the way for a September 20th election. Not something we do in the UK, but not sure if that is quite normal here. I guess he is hoping to be re-elected.

Yeah. I think he's trying to make a point that he's still who the Greek people want.

Greece being the creators of ‘democracy’, he has no choice but to let the people decide, and live or die by their decision. It will be an interesting month.

Yes it may make your trip through the airport more pleasant, but will any profits stay in Greece ?.Highly unlikely ,the greek people lose out again .

I think I saw that as part of the deal there would be an additional annual payment of x million. Could be wrong though
